When they reached the portrait hole, there was a great clattering of noise that appeared to dissipate slightly when Sirius and James climbed through the portrait hole. They were all staring at them.
"Quidditch trials are on the 10th, now bugger off," James said, to which everyone broke into excited chatter again.
"Ok, we need everyone in the dormitory," James turned to Sirius and Aquila, "I'll talk to Evans and Marlene, they're over there-"
He was about to stride over to a corner where two redheads were sitting with a mountain of homework. Sirius stopped him. "Mate, maybe I better do that. You'll have more luck with Alice and Dorcas," he said, tilting his head to where they sat by the fire with a game of Gobstones.
James looked disappointed, but said, "Kay," and wandered off.
Sirius turned to Aquila. "You can go up to our dormitory," he said, "Remus and Peter should be up there. We'll bring everyone else up in a few minutes."
She didn't move. Her eyes were avoiding his.
She's just as shy as him, too, oh Merlin...
"Okay, then come with me to talk to Evans and Marlene," he suggested, and she relented, following him like a stray puppy.
Lily Evans and Marlene McKinnon were writing their transfiguration essays, it looked like. Oh, well.
"Evans, are you busy?" Sirius asked hesitantly, to which Lily and Marlene put down their quills.
"Ugh,no," said Marlene, "I'd rather be doing anything than doing this essay. McGonagall assigned three rolls of parchment on the first day, I honestly want to drop..."
Sirius doubted she wanted to be doing what she was about to be doing, but he was doing this for Aquila and Draco, that much he knew.
"Well, James and I were going to have everyone from our year meet up in the dorm. We've got something to say to you all. It's serious," He said, looking grave.
Lily Evans raised her eyebrows. "You're not together, are you?"
"What? No," Sirius said, horrified, "Just... just get up there. We'll explain once we find Mary. You haven't seen her, have you?"
"She went up to bed early," Marlene offered. "I can go see if she's still awake, if you like."
"That'd be great," said Sirius, as she left, "Come on, Evans, we're not trying to kidnap you."
"Oh, all right," Evans huffed.
"Thanks."
Sirius and Evans walked up the stairs to the fifth year boys' dormitory, Aquila trailing just behind them. James, Dorcas, and Alice were also behind them.
