Moonlight

In a clearing in the Wood,
By Light of afternoon,
I sit and patiently await
The rising of the Moon.

Gradually, the Sun descends
And Twilight follows Day.
Streaks of Fire burn the Sky,
Then slowly fade to gray.

As Ember Orb lays down to sleep
And Blackness fills my sight,
I close my eyes and listen
To the Choir of the Night.

The chirping cricket, croaking frog,
The low Song of the Owl,
The chilling breeze and bats in flight,
The Wolves' beautiful Howl.

My eyes open, my head inclines,
The view so vast and far,
My gaze shifting in Wonder
'Tween each and every Star.

Darkness there is all around,
The Shadows strong and fine,
Soon illuminated
By famous, nightly Shine.

I look on as the Clouds part way
And Silver Disk appears,
Beaming down in Splendor full,
Expelling child's Fears.

Gentle glow rests on my skin,
So soft and filled with care,
From kind, motherly Smile
Moon forevermore will wear.

Light she spreads across the Land,
Reflecting brother Sun,
So Man and Beast can find their way
And do what must be done.

As loving Moon rules over Earth
From Throne and Palace high,
Silently, I weep and sob,
Dreading her goodbye.

Come the Morn brother ascends
And sister gains respite.
Asleep I fall to wake at Dusk,
And see again Moon's Light.
