Roger's POV
I couldn't wait for our date! I know Brian is eager because his attempts to fool around a few nights ago ended with us both being too tired to do anything. We both agreed to get a good night's sleep and enjoy our date night.
It's Thursday night and I have been anticipating this all day. Brian didn't tell me what we are doing. I am ready and he is finishing up in the bedroom. I can't sit still on this couch and keep wondering what he has planned. The door finally opened and he stepped out. He has a new shirt on! It's like an ice blue color and has little silver darts in it. Where did her get that? I wonder if it will fit me? He does look really handsome! I noticed he had taken some time with his hair and it's really shiny and his curls look so soft. He has really made an effort. I hope I look ok.
"Hey Rog! You look really good tonight...you ready?" he asked me as he approached the couch. He reached out his hand and I took it to get off the couch. I gave him my best smile as I stood up and he leaned in to kiss me.
"Ahh..first date! No kisses yet!" I reminded him. "Oh...right!' Brian agreed and took my hand and we headed for the door. I was glad he remembered my joke about not putting out on a first date. We'll see if I can hold my ground. I hope not! He grabbed his coat and then held mine out for me to put on. "Thanks!" What a gentleman!
We had walked a few blocks from the flat and I saw Brian reaching to hold my hand. "Bri!" I half shouted at him. He jumped a bit and stopped to look at me. "What?" He was clueless.
"You were trying to hold my hand.." I whispered into his shoulder. He looked contrite and started moving forward. "Sorry.." he muttered to me and sounded disappointed. I felt bad but what can we do? "Don't be sorry Bri.." I told him as I patted his arm and we headed on.
I was surprised to see him lead us into a little Italian bistro that was new to the area. We had passed by it before and I had commented that it would be nice to try. I loved that he remembered and we stepped inside. The busy room glowed with low lighting and the aroma of garlic, oregano and fresh bread made my stomach growl. Brian walked right up to the podium and spoke to the hostess. "Reservation for May." he announced and she looked at her book. She nodded and grabbed our menus. "Right this way." she told him and led us to a small table near the back. We sat down and she handed us our menus before she left. I was reading the choices and saw they had lasagna. I might get that...
"Is it strange that I am nervous?" Brian told me as I read the menu. I looked up at him and saw him smirking at me. I giggled a bit and shook my head. "I guess not. I mean it is weird that we have been together so long and never been on a real date. It is different, huh?" I told him. It was odd that we never did this before. I guess we never considered traditional rituals in our relationship.
"It is different. I haven't been on a date in so long and I'm not sure what I should do." he answered me.
"Well..I have never had someone take me on a date before so I don't know how to act either." I added. I suddenly realized I kind of felt like the girl in our relationship. In more ways than one. This felt really strange. I realized why Brian found this weird. It is.
"Let's just be ourselves ok? We are good at that!" I offered and he smiled and returned to his menu.
Our meal was wonderful and we both were able to relax and just enjoy each other. We finished and headed out of the restaurant. Brian checked his watch and I wondered what else he might have planned. "We're good on time." he announced and steered me down the sidewalk.
