Chapter 4

Georganne will arrive today, what will happen??

The next day was one Ruby dreaded, she tried to avoid it but she knew it wasn't gonna be for long. The family had breakfast together as always. This time Ruby invited Pauly to their table and she was happy she did. They had a lot of laughs and stories to tell Pauly about Ruby. Later Fernando and Ruby did their singing gig for the guest. It was the first time Paulette had heard Ruby sing since they were little, her voice had change.

"Wow Ruby, that was extraordinary. I knew you sang good but this is impressive. You sound better with age" Paulette teased

"Are you telling me I'm old?" Ruby joked then laughs

"You? Old? Never" Paulette said pretending to be offended then they both laughed

Fernando came to them relieved they were joking with each other "I'm happy to see my lovely wife having a good time" he said hugging Ruby from behind

"I'm still a bit nervous, I don't know if I can do it" Ruby said

"No one is forcing you, if you need time then you'll get it" Pauly said making her friend smile and nod

Fernando kissed Ruby on the head "I'll be at the front desk, yell if you need me" he said, Ruby kissed his lips before he walked away

"You got yourself a real treasure" Pauly joked

"I did" Ruby said proud, a few minutes later she saw Sam and Sophie walking towards the front entrance. Sophie had Donny in her arms but he was fussing "Sophie!!" Ruby called, the girl looked at her grandmother's direction "Need some help?"

Sophie walked to them "I can't find Sky and I'm going to the docks with Sam. Do you mind?" She asked

"Of course not Soph" Ruby said "Come to granny my prince" she said, the boy leaned into her and into her arms. Donny instantly started playing with her jewelry.

"Thanks grandma" Sophie said, Ruby looked at her sheepishly "We'll be right back, don't worry we won't say anything yet. Just like you wanted" She reassured and went out the door with Sam

"I'm guessing you know what that means" Pauly says

"She's picking up Georganne" Ruby answered, a million thoughts suddenly entered her mind. She tried to fight it but her nerves started to spike up. Feeling jitters all over her body, her mind started playing her again. The memories of her sister yelling at her echoed in her head. She wasn't ready, she tried to ignore the voices but she couldn't.

A few more minutes passed when Paulette noticed her flinch "Are you ok?" She asked

"I'm sorry Pauly" Ruby said handing her Donny "I can't do it, it's too much" frustrated she ran off and locked herself in Fernando's office. He and Pauly looked at each other with concern. Their gazes were interrupted by the sound of the jeep. Sam and Ruby were back with a tall blonde woman behind them. Sam was helping and giving instructions to the staff to help with a few boxes. Sophie was talking to Georganne when she noticed Paulette holding Donny and her grandmother gone.

"Seriouly?" Sophie said to Pauly when she and Georganne got closer. The woman gave her a confuse look.

Paulette sighed "Give her time" she said, this got Georganne more confuse "Hey Gigi, thanks for bringing the rest of the stuff"

"It's no problem, this is why I love the job. I get to go on vacation spots from time to time" Gigi joked

"Let's get you checked in" Sophie said, the women headed to the front desk where Fernando was already holding out the room key.

"Thank you grandpa" Sophie said and handed the key to Georganne

"Darling I'm gonna have to leave the desk for a few minutes. I have to-" he paused and eyed Pauly who gave him a look then continued "check on your grandmother, she's still in my office"

"Ok, I'll stay here don't worry" Sophie said to Fernando. When he walked off, she turned to Paulette "I can take Donny so you can settle in"

"So this is your son, he is really cute" Gigi said looking at him

"He is, you don't mind if we look after him a little longer? He can help us unpack" Paulette said

"I absolutely don't mind, you two are practically family" Sophie said but paused a little surprised "besides, Donny likes you" she gestured for some help with the bags.

"Thank you and please keep me posted on you know who" Pauly said signaling the office

"I will" Sophie said, the exchange left Georganne puzzled.

"Come on Gigi" Pauly saw so without another word they walked to the room.

Inside the office, Fernando was holding Ruby in his arms calming her down "Mi amor, I know this is hard for you. There is no need for you to pressure yourself. We all have our demons to fight" he said

"I know but sooner or later I will have to face her. I'd rather be sooner than later. It's been more than 50 years Fernando and me and my sister have unfinished business" Ruby said

"If you're sure"

"I've had more than enough time to think about what to say to her, I have to do it" Ruby said, Fernando smiled and they kissed

Paulette and Gigi were halfway through unpacking. Donny was inside one of the half empty suitcases on the bed. He took stuff out and Paulette and Gigi arranged them in the drawers. Pauly was telling her about the meeting the day before.

"So there will be a few live performances from the family" Paulette explained

"That's incredible, Sophie was telling that the hotel being a family business started with her mother. It has been that way since then, too bad she passed away" Gigi said

"Yes, the story is sadder than you think" Paulette said sad, Gigi looked at her in wonder.

They saw Donny crawl out of the suitcase and go to Georganne's open purse in between them. He took out her wallet and looked at the picture in it "Granny" he said

Pauly's eyes widened and she took the wallet from him "Fernando has way too many old pictures for you to recognize this" she said as if the baby could understand. She looked at it, the picture was of her and Ruby a few days before she left "It is your granny, good job Donny"

Gigi took the wallet and looked at the picture in surprise "Ruby?" Paulette nodded "She lives here? She is Sophie's grandmother? That is what the weird talk was"

"Yes, she didn't want you to know yet because she's still upset but come on girls. This has been going on for far too long" Paulette told her

"Pauly I may be sorry for the way I was with her but there was some things left unsaid. I mean look at where she ended up, in a hotel" Gigi scoffed

"Georganne!!" Paulette scolded "This was her daughter's hotel, now is her granddaughter's. She has been through a lot, her life was more complicated than you think. Talk to her, sort things out please. She made it out as a singer but after Donna died, her life took a turn that brought her here. We have talked about this, give her a chance Gigi"

Georganne groaned frustrated "I don't know Pauly, we didn't have the best sisterly relationship. Will she even want to talk to me?" She said

"Pop!!" Donny suddenly exclaimed, the women looked at the door and saw Fernando standing there.

"Hey champ" he said walking to the side of the bed, Donny had crawled towards him so he lifted the boy up "She's ready" Fernando said to Pauly and Gigi

"Are you ready?" Paulette asked Gigi

Gigi sighed "Maybe"

Will the situation end up as everybody hopes or will things get ugly?
