When Lailah woke up she was in a different bed and a completely different room. She looked to her left and saw a doctor standing over another bed.

"Bart, tell me what happened with you and your sister." The doctor asked

"She's not my sister," Bart replied bitterly. He rode up slightly, "And I'm not Bart," he snarled.

The woman doctor looked uncomfortable, "Then who are you then?" She asked.

"He's Malcolm, Malcolm tried to kill Cindy," Lailah answered for him, rolling over to see him with a bored look I'm her eyes.

Later on in the day, Lialah and Bart were visited by John Amos.

"I know you're angry at Chris and Cathy. I know you want them to pay for their sins, but you have to hold back until the time is right." John Amos said looking down at Bart.

"Malcolm was a smart man, he knew that sometimes, you have to pretend to be what people want you to be in order to prevail over them. You have to disguise your intentions, so they suspect nothing. Do you understand?" John Amos told Bart. But Bart was looking to his right to look at a sleeping Lailah.

Before John Amos left, he stared down Lailah in disgust, "I don't know why they left you two in the same room together."

Bart felt anger when John Amos said that, but he did nothing except turn away from her. He stayed silent until he heard her speak.

"So what should I call you, Bart or Malcolm?" Lailah questioned him.

Bart smirked, "Why can't I be both?"

Lailah sighed and sarcastically said, "Because I don't think that Balcolm and Mart are good names."

They stared at each other and giggled for a minute or two. When it became silent, it also became serious.
Bart lost the grin on his face, "You know me better than anyone, Lailah. You're my best friend and I love you, but you make me weak. You make me question my actions, rethink my feelings, you undermine me. This friendship can be no longer if I am going to be where I need to be."

"Bart, how can you say that?" Lailah says, heartbroken.

When the doctor came back, Bart acted as if he was normal, but Lailah knew the truth. After they were discharged, they were forced to back to the hospital for when Mrs. Sheffield injured her knee. Honestly, Lialah didn't care about that, everything had changed. The family she thought she had just slipped through her fingers like sand.

Lailah asked permission to use their house phone, her nerves shot up with each ring, but no one answered.

This is the voicemail of Aaron Walker...

"Hi Dad, can you come and pick me up later," She spoke into the voicebox, not knowing that everyone could hear her.

"Is everything alright?" Mr. Sheffield asked her.
