Icy Unsurprise

Late Fall.
There is a thin layer of ice on the channel of the lake.
Friend W demands we go kayaking, and that we just need to break through the ice and it will be good.
I am skeptical but easy to sway.
We haul out kayaks and prepare.
I set down kayak on ice and attempt to get in, something I have done many times for throughout my life.
Kayak proceeds to slide across the ice.
I do not follow, as gravity has taken hold.
I fall through the ice into the very nasty bog water and mud.
I am very wet.
I am very cold.
I am very, very smelly.
Friend W laughs at me, as he has successfully gotten in his kayak and rowed throught the ice.
