One, Two, Three

Based on something I witnessed the other day

The classroom is noisy.

"One, two, three.." The teacher sings expectantly.

Each kindergartener stops in their tracks at the sound of her voice. They drop building blocks and improperly held crayons as she stands waiting at the front.

Their small eyes move towards their teacher. They quickly stop their playing and arguing. The crying seizes. They know what’s coming, they’ve learned and trained endlessly through the first few days of school. Each kindergartener is turned to face their teacher now, their tiny, grubby hands on their heads. Slowly, in unison they sing the words loud and clear

“EYES ON MEEE"
