Tanjiro x Dying Sister Reader

3rd person's POV

"Tanjiro"

"Don't worry mother, I'll just sell a little coal. Besides, I want everyone to have some feast this New Year " the boy with his green/black patterned haori assured his mother with a smile

"Mother~ I'll go with brother" A young girl with (e/c) happily skipped to her brother's side

"Me too" the two younger siblings, Shigeru and Hanako pleaded with their cute and irresistible eyes

"You can't, you'll slow your brother down" their mother said in a strict but loving tone

"Ehh... The why (y/n)-nee's going with him?"

"Well that's because—"

"Shigeru, don't bother mom so much. I'll buy you something good later in the village. You too, Hanako, I'll read you a book later when I get home" the children's eyes lit up in excitement and agreed to stay home, willing to wait for their eldest brother go and fulfill his promise

As the two started walking towards the village, they saw the second eldest Nezuko carrying an asleep Rokuto at her back

"Nii-chan, are you going again? Oh and (y/n)'s coming?" The girl asked. Before the eldest can say anything, (y/n) answered her questions

"Yup~ And don't worry, I'll protect Nii-san" The energetic (y/n) winked at her sister. Nezuko gave her a chuckle and told the two to be careful

After the siblings sold their coals they decided to head back home. Unfortunately, the darkness started to eat up the remaining light in the sky. 

"Brother, aren't you a famous one, everyone seems to be relying on you non-stop" the girl teased and laughed. Her brother just dryly laughed at her

The two was told by their acquaintance, Saburou, to stay at his cottage for it's dark and dangerous at this time of the day and he told them they can stay until the first light tomorrow

The two walked up to their home and the younger smiled as she knew she could finally play with her siblings again. Yet, fate seems to be cruel to this family and the cycle of horror and terror started the moment the two laid their eyes to their beloveds

~ Time skip ~

"Nee-chan, please wake up..." (y/n) caressed her elder sister's cheeks as she sleeps in her bed.

"We lost too much... Please don't leave us too..." the girl took Nezuko's hands

"I'm scared..." tears were starting to form in her eyes but a knock suddenly made her wipe her eyes and fix herself. The door opened, revealing an exhausted Tanjiro

"Welcome back"

"I'm home" the boy smiled and pat (y/n)

"Was Urokodaki-san tough on you again?" The girl smiled in concern

"Not that much" Tanjiro replied and kneeled beside her and Nezuko. He also patted Nezuko and looked over (y/n). His chest ached as he noticed the sorrow in his sister's face and little did she know, he heard her silent cries before entering the room. He brought his forehead to Nezuko and warmly looked at her

"I promise, I'll make you human again... I won't let anything bad happen to you" It was a reassurance that he will keep on looking out for his remaining family. Tanjiro did the same to (y/n)

"And of course, to you too" the girl smiled and stood up

"I guess it's my turn to train now, I'm off"

"Goodluck, (y/n)" the eldest waved as his sister exited their room

"Nii-san!" (y/n) yelled as his brother's katana snapped upon contact with the demon's thread
