"So I said that I couldn't make it because I was working at the hotel tonight." I said on the phone as I unlocked my apartment.
"But Joe had been asking you out for weeks now! And it's your birthday you should be celebrating with someone!" My friend yelled on the other line.
I walked into my apartment and laid the key on the island in the kitchen.
"Well I hoping to spend it with you but things happen. Tell you mom I hope she feels better." I smiled
"I will and I'm sorry about everything. I wish things could have gone differently."
"Yeah me too...anyway I got a cupcake and a tv calling my name. See you soon."
"Alright happy birthday...talk to you later."
I hung up and sighed as I turned on the lights in the kitchen and walked to the fridge and grabbed the cupcake I had been saving for today. I walked over to the kitchen drawer and grabbed the candle and lighter as well. I turned the lights back off and lit the candle on the cupcake.
But before I blew it out I turned on the tv and played the movie I had been saving for today.
I sat down on the couch and sighed "Happy birthday to me...I wish I wasn't so alone..." I blew out the candle and then took it off to eat the cupcake as I played the movie. I got comfortable as I ate the cupcake and watched the movie then it started to storm outside.
I Ignored it continued to watch the movie, but then the power went out.
"You've got to be kidding me!" I yelled as got up and walked to the window to see the storm outside. I rolled my eyes and sat on my couch not knowing what to do.
I heard a knock on the door and jumped up. I wasn't expecting company, but it was storming outside so maybe someone needed help? No it was probably a serial killer. But it could be someone that needs a place to lay low until the storm. Or it could be a serial killer. I shook my thoughts away and walked up to the door and looked through the peep hole.
He seemed young and scared. I grabbed the bat next to my door and slowly opened it.
"Hi!" He said as he was shivering in the rain.
"Oh my gosh come in your soaking wet!" I yelled as I showed him in.
"Thank you miss. I'm sorry to barge in like this." He said as he rubbed his hands together.
"No no don't worry about it you must be freezing!"
I ran to grabbed him a blanket as he took off his jacket. I gave it to him and I believe he smiled but I couldn't see because it was pretty dark.
"I have to go light some candles um, make yourself at home." I said with a smile.
"Thank you miss-uh-"
"(Y/n)! I'm (y/n) and you are."
"I'm Tom." He smiled
"It's nice to meet you Tom it would be nicer if I could actually see you face so I'll be right back." I nodded and grabbed the lighter and started to light all the candles in my apartment, thankfully I had a candle phase last month so I had a lot of them.
Tom was sitting on the couch and after I lit all the candles I sat down as well.
"Well I can kinda see you now so the candles did help a little." I laughed and so did he.
