The Smile

Behind that smile,
full-toothed and joyous,
bright and clean,
were deeper thoughts
and sad regrets
that barely could be seen.

Your soft brown eyes
shone cold and black
remembering what we once had,
that we cannot have back.

You nod and chat,
your smile extends,
from lovely ear to ear,
you turn to flee
so I wont see
that single honest tear.
