has been my shelter
against the brutal world,
protection from the storms of life,
that batter us relentlessly
from birth.
Your kindness
shields me from despair,
and reassures me
that the sun will shine again,
however dark
the gathering clouds
may be.
Your kindness
is the anchorage
which keeps my life
from sweeping out to sea,
or smashing onto distant lands
against the sharp
and unrelenting rocks
of undiscovered shores.
Your kindness
is the ever-moving eye
within the storm of life,
a patch of cloudless sky and calm,
surrounded by
the seething fury
of an unforgiving world.
