Chapter 2:Smells like Teen Spirit

(September 6th 2010)
What are most teenagers doing at 5:30 in the morning, sleeping not Cass Ryder.

Cass is in the backyard with her dad Ben Ryder, they are fight training.

They have wooden sticks and are going against each other, they are both sweating and hot.

"Cass, your back foots sliding out"Ben tells his daughter.

Cass rolls her eyes.

"No, it's not"Cass replies.

Ben knocks his daughters feet out from under her and she lands on the grass.

Ben stands over her.

"Just because you can't see someone doesn't mean they aren't there"Ben tells his daughter.

Ben sticks his hand out and pulls Cass to her feet.

"You've got to sense their presence even when they aren't in your eye-line"Ben continues teaching his daughter.

"I get it, I suck"Cass tells her dad defeated.

"You don't suck, you get better everyday"Ben tells her.

The two walk inside and into the kitchen.

Cass passes her dad his water bottle and drinks from her's.

"Dad?"Cass ask's.

Ben turns to his daughter.

"Yes"Ben ask's.

"Since I'm getting better, would I be good enough to go to the back to school bonfire"Cass ask's hopefully.

Ben turns to look at his daughter.

"I don't know, after what you told me happened at the school they other night, and with all the
V-A-M-P-I-R-E-'S out there"Ben says spelling out vampire.

Cass turns to her dad.

"Why are you spelling out vampire? Sophie doesn't finish till seven and the boys are in bed"Cass inquires.

Ben looks at his daughter.

"You never know with them three, they tend to pop up out of nowhere"Ben tells Cass.

Cass looks at her dad and see genuine worry on his face.

"You can go, I just want you to be careful, I don't want to lose you like I lost your mother and brother"Ben says being honest with his daughter.

Despite being hot and sweaty the father and daughter hug each other.

"You will never lose me"Cass tells him confidently.

"You can't promise me something like that"Ben says seriously.

Cass picks up get water bottle.

"I can't promise you that but that's why I drink
V-E-R-V-A-I-N"Cass tells him.

Ben looks at his daughter slightly confused.

"I line the bottom of my water bottle with it and add more every other day"Cass explains.

Ben looks at his daughter and realises how strong and smart she is.

"Go take a shower and get changed, you smell"Ben tells his daughter jokingly.

Cass rolls her eyes.

"Like you can talk"Cass replies.

Cass begins to walk away before turning back around.

"Can I get my bow back too?"Cass ask's.

Ben scoffs at his daughter.

"No, Mrs Graham's cat has only just had surgery after you shot her"Ben tells her.
