"The maze!" Alby shouted. All the Gladers stared. Apparently the maze only opened once a day..at least, it was supposed to. Rectangular holes opened in the walls. A girl ran in. Percy shouted.
"Annabeth?"
"Percy!"
They ran towards each other as everyone else watched. Annabeth hugged him.
"Seaweed brain!"
Some sniggers rose.
"Hi, wise girl."
"Oh my gods. What are you doing here?" She looked around.
"I don't know."
Alby rushed forward. "Go back, girl. Go back into the buggin' maze."
"She's my girlfriend." Percy's voice was deadly serious. "Don't you dare."
"Both of you...then...go." Alby glared at the couple.
"Fine," Percy said. He pulled Annabeth along and they entered the maze,just as the doors closed and Gladers gasped.
A hideous black blob with mechanical legs rolled towards them.
Its legs stuck out randomly from its body and it made a whirring, clicking sound as rolled.
Whirr
Click click click.
Percy realised with a start that they were staring at one of those things Annabeth had killed.
Lasers fixed on Annabeth and Percy as Percy met his first Griever.
