Endymion's Plea

6 2 1

Like teardrops sparkling across the endless sky,

The stars, the planets, the moon reflect,

How my feelings have gone awry.

O lonely moonbeam, shining through my windowpane,

Why have you come to greet me,

As if I were still sane?

Your bright light beckons me to come closer,

Like a moth drawn to a flame,

I feel myself draw nearer,

With my lips, whispering thy name.

Selene, I want to shout,

Daughter of Hyperion and Theia,

Sister to Helios,

Why do you torment me so?

You keep calling me to a place,

Where I know I cannot go.

A vast distance separates us,

The earth, the sky, and the sea,

But, I know it in my heart,

That our love, was meant to be.

So, why you do remain, caged to the sky?

Cursed forever to draw that chariot,

A shining light in the darkness,

Combating the very evils that plague,

The earth, without a singular ally.

I beg of you, Selene,

Take me with you on your nightly journey,

To you, so I can prove myself worthy,

And make you my queen.

So that we can break this vicious cycle,

Of you traversing the sky every night.

But, in the depths of my heart I know,

That you will look at me and say,

It cannot be so.

Duty must come before our love,

I can hear her luscious lips say,

I must remain high above,

I cannot let you be in my way.

Then smite me down for I am,

I cannot let you go my goddess,

For without you, I am nothing but,

Just a lonely man.

My wavering words fall upon,

Your deaf ears,

As you turn away from me,

And disappear.

And before I even look back,

I already know that you are gone.

So, here I am,

Left all alone in the dark,

It feels like something is squeezing,

And breaking my heart.

I want to scream and shout,

Beat my hands and call out,

Until I fall down to my knees,

Knowing that you will never hear,

My pitiful plea.
