I pried the hand that muffled my screams, but to no avail. A strong arm snaked around my waist and tugged me against a hard, solid chest. I fought back and squirmed. Alarm coursed through my veins as my heart pounded against my chest, on the verge to explode.

Then, mind over matter, I recalled the numerous self-defense videos I have watched online-specifically reserved for situations like this. I chose one and inhaled as I found my center. I raised my free arm-just high enough to create sufficient force-and elbowed my captor, aiming for the ribs. My attacker's hold loosened a bit and I freed myself. I spun around and-still not contented-struck him hard on the groin with my knee.

"Mother fu-" He cursed and clutched his crotch. He went down on one knee, and breathed deeply.

I stumbled back, almost tripping on my own foot. My eyes finally adjusted and got a vague look at him. He blended well with the shadows, but his face glistened as it stood out against the pool of black around him...almost similar to the monster in coat earlier.

A new wave of fear enraptured me. I started to run back to the street, but somehow the damage I've implemented on him did not hinder his agility. He grabbed my arm and yanked me with enough strength to tumble me back and I landed on my rear.

"Let go of me, you bastard!" I shouted, with the hope that someone would hear me. Just when I was about to connect my fist to his face, he held my other arm and shook me violently as though taming a wild animal.

"I'll let that slide. But now, you're coming with me." He growled in a deep, demanding voice that burrowed to the bones.

"The hell I won't!" I snarled just as fiercely and writhed against him. But every struggle proved to be impossible; his grip dug firmer and firmer on my wrists.

He stood up and forcefully dragged me along with him. He had at least a five-inch advantage on me, somewhere more than six feet tall. I began to scream for help, but he unsubtly backed me against a brick wall, which knocked the breath out of me. He towered over me and covered my cries with one strong hand.

His body was a few mere inches away from mine and I could feel his shaky breath that lightly caressed my face. "For fuck's sake Alexandra, we have to get out of here before it comes back!" He growled on. His words rippled all through my skin.

I froze. How did he know my name? And what the hell is it? He sensed me stiffened and slowly released his hand. I panted for fresh air and stared up at him in disbelief. From this angle, the faint luminosity from the street revealed half of his well-defined, sculpted face.

"H-how..." I stuttered, as I tried to get the words out.

"Not here, I'll explain it all to you once we're in a safer place." He loosened his hold on me and took a step back, but still gripped my wrist unyieldingly.

I attempted to tug my arm free, but he wouldn't budge. I studied him suspiciously. Thankfully, he didn't have crimson red eyes that screamed bloody murder and foul insects protruding from his mouth.

But could I really trust a total stranger?

He clicked his tongue impatiently at my hesitation. "Come on Alex, for your aunt's sake."

That caught my attention. He smirked when he knew he had me. His eyes glinted even amidst the gloom. It was intensely captivating and with a dark shade I have yet to figure out. I glared back and was about to question him but he pressed a finger to his lips, a signal to keep quiet. Curiosity got the best of me and I was left with no choice but to put my trust on him.

His pace held an air of command as he led me to the edge of the alley. He peeked on both sides of the road and checked whether the coast was clear.
