Humming, Amelia checked her mailbox to find it overstuffed with junk mails and bills. Her writing and other things had taken a back seat lately, but she was far from complaining. The attention James had lavished on her in the bedroom had been worth it.
After greeting a neighbour, she entered her apartment, only to be distracted by her phone's ringing. "Hello?"
"Is this Amelia Aslan?"
"Yes?" she answered, not recognizing the caller.
"This is Ian from Marlon Publishing Inc. We met at the gala almost a week ago."
"Hi, there." Her stomach did a funny somersault. "How is it going?"
"I'm great. Listen, I liked your story's pitch. There is a market for it. I read the excerpts of your earlier work, and they are impressive although they didn't gain much traction," he said. "l have talked to others, and they are interested in meeting you. So, what do you think?"
Oh my God, She let out a silent scream of excitement. "Yes, I would love to come down and talk about my current project."
"Alright, send us the first three chapters of The Crown of Anora," Ian instructed warmly. "Let's see... are you available a month from now?"
"I believe I am," she enthused, unable to hide her over-eagerness at the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Even if they didn't like her fantasy piece, it could open the doors for future projects.
Hanging up, Amelia rushed outside. She wanted to tell James the good news in person. After all, she owed him for this. Maybe they could celebrate later by enjoying each other's company. The thought made her cheeks blister on the subway. He knew how to pleasure a woman, and each time he left her wanting for more.
"Amelia, you are back." Asher, who was chatting with a co-worker, looked surprised. "And, Mamacita, you look hot."
She glanced down and almost swore at the sight of her denim skirt and lacy black top. Definitely not office appropriate. "Er, yeah, Jam- Mr. Weston and I are working on something important. I need to talk to him."
"I will let Mr. Weston's assistant know." The main receptionist gave her a disapproving once-over. Her lilting accent added to her snootiness.
They didn't have to wait for too long as James walked in, looking dashing, with a bunch of other people in equally smart suits. He halted and stared. The grim line of his lips didn't exactly shield his thoughts.
Looks like an impromptu visit isn't his thing, she thought, feeling foolish.
"Mr. Weston, this girl is here to see you. I'm not sure if she has an appoint—"
"Emily, I will take it from here." James waylaid her with a curt nod and turned to his group. "I will join you guys later." Then he herded Amelia to his office. A befuddled Gina sneaked her a sympathetic smile.
Surprising him with her news had seemed like a good idea on the coattails of the past few blissful days they had spent together. The sex had been earth-shattering, although she couldn't shake the feeling that something troubled him.
One time when Amelia had stayed over his place, she had stumbled upon James ranting over the phone. From what she had heard, he was arguing with someone about the firewalls and system breach.
As soon as James closed the office door, he spun around and covered his mouth with hers, igniting tingling heat in her belly. Giving him wider access, she moaned as his tongue slipped inside. His hands were everywhere, touching her intimately.
"What are you trying to do to me? Kill me?" he groaned against her lips, as if in pain.
She let him debauch her with his mouth, tongue and words. "What?"
