2 days after the events in Seattle...
Sunday, October 30th, 2016Y/N's POV
Walking. We were constantly walking. Usually no words were said between the three of us, only glances and the occasional short conversations.
We had stopped at a diner yesterday. Spent $11.85, but that shake and burger were so worth it.
I walked next to Sean, the feeling of guilt always nagged at me whenever I looked at him or Daniel. They didn't deserve any of this.
But nevertheless we trudged along. Turning back to check on Daniel I noticed he was falling behind. Frowning I stopped and waited till he was next to me. Putting my hand on his shoulder I said, "I know, I'm tired too. Maybe there will be a stop soon."
He looked up to me with a sigh. "This is so tiring."
Before I could answer Sean cut into our conversation. "No guys, we can't stop here. We gotta keep going. No pouting, okay? Come on!"
Daniel looked annoyed. "But... But... My feet really hurt. These shoes suck... And we've been waking for four days."
I quirked a brow at this. Wasn't it only two so far?
"What? Only two!" Sean turned to face us. "Daniel, don't even try that shit." He looked away, running a hand down his face.
"And my back hurts from sleeping under that stupid bridge..." Daniel complained.
"Yeah, so does mine! I'm sure (Y/N) is in pain as well!"
"We were there too, buddy." I kneeled down to Daniel's level. "I know that it sucks right now, but it'll be better soon." I then stood back up.
"Exactly, just... Knock it off Daniel." Sean interjected. "I hate it when you act like this." There was a brief moment of silence before he spoke again. "This is how people camp in the woods. It's not like being... Being in a home or, in your room. This is a..."
"An adventure." I added, smiling.
Sean gave me a thankful nod. "So, come on!" He grabbed Daniel's hand. "Let's... Hit the trail!" He tried yanking him along but Daniel refused to comply. "Seriously..!"
Pulling away Daniel moved back and sat on the ground, wrapping his arms around his legs. "Where is dad?"
Sean and I shared a look of despair. He shook his head, looking to the dirt.
"Daniel, please. We have to go." I cooed.
"Why isn't my dad with us, (Y/N)? Doesn't he want to go camping too?"
I attempted to keep a light expression. "Yes, but we told you that he couldn't. Your father... had— has a lot of work to do." I ruffled his hair. "How else are we supposed to get money to buy you Chock-O-Crips? So could you please just bear with us for a bit?"
Daniel smiled. "Okay. But I'm sick of walking! I just wish I was back in my room."
Sean walked over to the two of us. "I know, I know. But hey... At least we don't have to go to school on Monday. Right?"
