I hold onto the pin my mother gave me, spinning it around my fingers. I was put into a large room with a large white couch and some sodas.
"Rye."
My voice so familiarly says to me.
"Willow," I say.
She smiles at me and takes a seat next to me on the white couch.
"My minds playing tricks on me."
She grabs onto my hand and a tear rolls down her cheek.
"You were supposed to win. I was supposed to save you!" I cry.
She wipes my tears then gives me a light smile.
"You survived for the both of us," she says.
The door opens and Willow disappears. A man with a white shirt and pants comes in.
"We're here."
I hurry out of the room to the exit of the hovercraft. When the door opens I'm greeted by mom and dad.
"Rye!" Mom cries.
She grabs onto me and holds me tight. Dads grab my hand and smiles at me. The only thing I can think that I can think to say is, "sorry."
"For what?" Asks mom.
"I'm sorry I couldn't save her."
They both go quiet and show no emotion.
"Come on, let's go."
Dad pulls me off the hovercraft and mom follows behind me. There are cameras everywhere and everyone is screaming my name. We manage to get to our rooms that's when I see Violet and Haymitch.
"Great job boy," Haymitch says while patting me on the back.
Violet sits in the corner like usual but she gives me a smile.
Fiona tabs her way to us while holding her arms out.
"Oh my Rye," she says in her Capital accent.
She sees the expression on my face and lowers her arms.
I want to be away from everyone I just want to be in the woods with Willow. Mom pushes me towards what was my room.
"I know you're upset. I know you're in pain, but you have to smile for the cameras. And act like it's the best day of your life."
"Okay," I say.
"I know it's hard," tears start to form in her eyes.
"What did you do when she died?"
She's thrown back by my question.
"I mourned. I'm still mourning, but we have to get through this first."
She pulls me into a hug and we both cry silently.
Even though I'm out of the games I don't think I'll ever truly leave it.
