Ch. 1

I walk into the school, knowing no one. I sigh as I remember my old friends, the ones that promised me they would never forget me. I hear people whisper about me behind me.

"Who is she? Is she new?" I hear one say. I go to the locker I was given and put in the combination. I put my backpack- black with blue thin stripes going side to side- up and get my binder. I grab some pencils and look at the schedule I was given when I walked in the school, along with my locker.

I walk to first period. Mrs. Gallens. Math. I have always been advanced at math, and fail the tests they give us for advanced classes on purpose. I don't want to be given "90•a=? Answer without calculator." Who wants to have that?

I walk in and sit in the back. I sit beside the window and look out to the red, yellow, and orange leaves dotting the oak sitting outside. I see someone sitting against it, and I swear he had blood all over him. I stand and blink, then he's gone.

I sit back down. "Trick of the eyes," I growl lowly to myself. "Why would someone be laying outside covered in blood anyway, Katie? Think before you act."

I look down at the bracelets my friends had once gave me, the horrid pink surrounded by beautiful shades of blue. My friend Jace tried to convert me to a "girly girl," but I said no by jumping in the mud after she put me in a pink dress. You should have seen the look on her face.

I laugh silently to myself as people trickle in. Someone stands in front of me.

"Your in my seat," she growls at me. I look up to see a cake faced girl, sparkly things blind me as I realize she has all kinds of jewelry on. A prep.

She places her stuff on the desk, bejeweled and to bright for me. I'd much rather things be black and blue, like her face will be if she doesn't leave me alone.

I calmly just slide her stuff into the floor, the poorly done bejeweled job someone done to her binder causes a mess as it all scatters across the floor. People all around us has started paying attention, and gasp or snicker as her face turns beet red. I smile sweetly at her as she picks her stuff up, leaving the fake jewels to scatter the floor. She makes her way to another desk, leaving me with a triumphant smile on my face.

"Wow, you really shouldn't have done that. She will have her dad sue your family for every penny they have by faking a black eye and saying you did it. I'm surprised she let you have the seat," a guy beside me says. I look over to him. He has blonde curly hair, brown eyes, and dark blue glasses.

"If she sued me, all she'd get would be pocket change. That's all we have. I-" I'm interrupted by the teacher talking.

"Hello, students, I believe we have a new student with us today. If she would please stand and introduce herself," she says, referring to me. I stand, then she gestures for me to come to the front. I sigh as I make my way up. I turn and face the crowd, eyes on that guy sitting beside my seat.

"Hi. I'm Katie Price, I'm so glad to be here," I say with all the sarcasm I can muster. The teacher looks at me disapprovingly as I make my way back to my seat. I look at my desk and see a piece of paper that wasn't there before.

I open it and read it silently.

Hi, I'm Drake. That preps name is Jessica. Good luck dealing with her.

I scribble down "thanks, I'll deal with her the same way I dealt with the last prep that got in my way."

I pass it when Mrs. Gallens isn't looking. I get it back a minute later and some different handwriting is on it.

Hey, I'm Josh, I'm Drake's friend. R u emo or something?

I sigh mentally and put no. I look down at my attire.
