Lydia POV

I miss him. I know he's a bio-exorcist who tried to kill everyone I love, but, we got pretty close. Now everything is so boring. I mean, I always have the Maitlands to talk to, but they're so... dry. My dad is always away, and Delia just tries too hard.

I'm seriously thinking about bringing him back. I know, I know. He'll do the same thing. But what if we make a deal? Some sort of agreement?

      "Great idea, Lyds."

I recognize that raspy voice. I turn around, scanning my room, but I don't see anyone. It's just my imagination. He's gone. And even if he wasn't, how would he hear my thoughts?

"It isn't exact science, but I have my ways."

There it is again! I think I'm going crazy. But- it doesn't hurt to make sure, right? I wait a few seconds to see of he speaks again, before I answer.

"B-Beetlejuice?" I stammer. I feel crazy. I'm talking to myself, I'm sure of-

"You know it! Now say it two more times."

My eyes go wide. He's back. Strangely, I wasn't scared or annoyed. I was actually kind of happy. No, what am I thinking? He tricked you into almost exorcising Barbra!

"Can't we put that in the past? I've changed! I promise!"

I could practically see his pleading puppy dog eyes. "What makes you think I want you back?" I questioned.

"You said it yourself. Life is boring. You miss your bffff forever!"

"I do not. Not one bit. And we're not bffffs forever. Not anymore." The words hurt to say. Of course I missed him. And I wish we we're still bffffs forever. But I can't tell him that. He'll use it against me.

      "That's not true."

He's right. I change the subject. "If I summon you, what's in it for me?"

"Quality time with me. Duh."

I snicker at the comment. He's still a smart-ass. I have to think. I can't just do this. I need to make sure everyone will be safe. "You'll kill someone."

      "How do you know?"

"Because I know you, Beej." He's a liar. I have no way of knowing if he'll keep his word or not.

"I swear on my life I won't kill anyone."

I scoff. He thinks I'm stupid. "Try again. You're dead."

      "I swear on your life."

Woah. My life? It's either he really doesn't care about me, or he means it. "Or exorcisms. None of those."

"You got it. No hurting anyone. Just a couple of bffffs doing bffff things. And if anything goes wrong, you can send me right back."

Send him back? He just said I could send him back. Maybe he has changed. No, stop. You're not thinking straight.

"Speaking of not thinking straight, who's the girl?"

My face flushes. My phone is open, and my wallpaper is a girl I've been talking to. He must have seen it somehow. "We met at a party." I start to explain how everything went down.

~Flashback~

I wasn't completely sure that I liked girls. Then there was her. Hailey. Fiery red hair and electric blue eyes. Her round glasses fit her face perfectly, tying everything together. When she invited me to her party, I absolutely lost it. I spent hours picking out the perfect outfit. I settled on black skinny jeans with rips and a acid washed cropped hoodie. My dad drove me to the "Study Session." I knocked on the door and squealed inside when Hailey opened it. Walking inside, I could tell that her family was pretty wealthy. There was a glass chandelier hanging in the entrance hall, and a giant rec room. We did normal party things. Played 'Cards Against Humanity' and maybe a little alcohol was involved. Then we played 'Spin the Bottle.' Guess who it landed on during my turn? Hailey. We kissed. It was amazing, and felt so right. I got her number before I left.

~Present~

"Damn, kid. You know how to pick 'em. Rich and pretty."

I giggle. "Oh, shut up. This isn't even about me."

"Right. Have you decided yet? I won't do anything stupid, I promise!"

Of course he would. He's Beetlejuice. But, I do miss these conversations. And late-night movie marathons. And taking Adam's credit card and raiding 7/11. But I still need time. "I'll think about it."

      "Fine. I'll be back tomorrow."

I hear a whooshing sound, then silence. I assume that means he left my thoughts. Finally. I look at my clock. It displays '11:28 PM.' I should get some sleep. I have a lot to think about.

~The Next Morning~

"Lyds. Lyds. Lydia. Lyds, wake up. Lydia. Lydia. Lyds. Lydiaaaaa. Wake up. Lydia."

I squint and look around my room. Oh, right. He's not here. A little part of me collapsed when I realized that. "What the hell do you want?" I asked

"I want you to say my name!"

"No. It's too early." I closed my eyes again.

"Please? Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please ple-"

"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!" I covered my mouth. What did I just do?! The wind picked up, lighting flashed and thunder boomed. Then he appeared in my bedroom. I couldn't hide my smile, as much as I tried.

"Hey, kid." He had his trademark grin on his face.

      "Holy shit."
