“Albert”

Could it really be him?

Like smoke, he vanished

Now, he’s in front of me

I’m able to hold him near

“I missed you”

Will he say he does, too?

Even if it is just a dream

I want to hear him say

He never meant to leave

I fought the blinking of my eye

Enjoying this enthralling reverie

If this is the only way to be with him

I’d rather forget about reality’s kiss

Too bad, it’s beyond her control

Dreams don’t last too long

Despite her desire for it to last eternally

Reality comes around without warning

“Sorry, I’m not Albert”

My hands dropped to my sides

Not losing eye contact with him

I know, but I settled with the lie

That his going away wasn’t real

“I’m sorry”

She turned her back on him

Wishing to hear an apology

Not from this stranger’s

But from her beloved’s lips

She would not ask

For any explanation

She just wants Albert back

Hear from him again the words

“I love you.

I’ll always do.”
