The earliest neurological experiments had some unusual side-effects, many of which didn't manifest themselves at once. Zoolinguism was one of these. In those early days the researchers, having no access to suitable subjects, had the unfortunate habit of experimenting on themselves. Their descendents came to be known as Dolittlers, after the fictional Dr. Dolittle, who could talk to animals.
