i sit through the hours.

i sit beneath the stars

glowing on the crack'd blue paint

on my ceiling.

/

i reach out and climb the night

unfurling, parting clouds from sky

a million diamonds each so bright

i hear their whispers call:

"you'll never stop loving distant lights."

yea, i guess you're right

so let the horizon slip; let me fall

and she whispers, ever quiet:

"maybe you can't have it all."

/

the windows frost

the breeze grows cold

but i still feel you

your warmth unfolds

the clock is watching

it can't break our hold

through dust, through ages

we are gold.

/

and that's why i tell myself

listen

when the whispers call

their echoes ring through these haunted halls

oh, my haunted halls

they chant:

"maybe you can't have it all."

/

yea, i want everything way too much

even though i know

that when dreams come true

there'll only be nightmares left to live for

/

but i've still got you

sitting with me as time swings

and in what way are you

not everything?
