Looking over some of the fresh produce, I made my way through the large market with Marianne sticking close to my side. She held onto my jacket as we weaved our way through the crowd, neither of us particularly fond of being in such a lively place. But, chores are chores and today it was Marianne's job to go and grab food for the Golden Deer's activities (Claude and Hilda's idea of course) and I couldn't just let her come here all on her own. What kind of a professor would I be if I didn't look after my students?

The petite blue haired girl stayed absolutely silent as I finished grabbing the last of the food we needed for later this evening. Her grip on my jacket didn't loosen until we had walked a fair distance from the market and were far away from the crowds of loud people bustling about.

"You didn't have to do this, Professor..." She said softly, trying to walk more behind me but ultimately giving up once she realized I was going to walk beside her one way or another. "I-I know spending time with me isn't the most enjoyable..."

"Nonsense, I have a great time when I'm with you." I responded easily, Garreg Mach about a twenty minute ways walk from the market in town.

Marianne looked down at the ground with a troubled expression. "You don't have to lie Professor. I wouldn't like being around me either..." She sighed.

"If I didn't want to spend time with you, then I wouldn't. Lady Rhea doesn't have a say in which students I choose to get close to so it's not like I'm being forced to be here." I said, offering the timid girl a small smile. "You're great company Marianne."

She didn't quite know how to respond to that, a faint blush tinting her cheeks as she quickly diverts her gaze. "P-Professor..."

I moved a little closer to her as a large group of merchants came walking past on the road. "It's the truth. You've really started coming out of your shell recently and I'm happy to see you getting along with the other students more. And it's nice seeing you smile every now and again."

"Sylvain said I should practice my smile more." Marianne murmured as she hesitantly looked to me. "Do you really think my smile is nice?"

"Nice isn't the right word. How about, beautiful?"

"Beautiful?!"

I couldn't help but laugh a bit as Marianne looked to me with a truly bewildered expression. "Have you never been complimented before?" I asked, her pale brown eyes only widening even further before she quickly looked back down at the ground, a drunkard stumbling out of a bar across the street and nearly tripping into the brothel next door.

"I-It's not- I don't... No, I've never received such a genuine compliment before..." The blue haired girl murmured. "I'm not very good at handling things like this, Professor..."

Reaching up, I gently patted her head. "You're doing fine Marianne. Should I start giving you daily compliments from now on to boost your confidence?" I then asked with a smirk tugging at the corners of my lips as I tried to suppress a laugh.

"Please don't." Marianne pleaded as she looked up at me, her cheeks somehow burning an even brighter shade of red than before. "I don't think I can take much more."

Laughing, I reassured her that I'd stop, the two of us turning down yet another winding street bustling with life. Though once we were about ten minutes out from the monastery, Marianne spoke up once more.

"Professor..?"

I hummed in response, adjusting how I'm holding our groceries. There's less people out and about on these last few streets leading to the monastery. There must have been some sort of sale going on at the market which would explain why it was so busy today. Guess it was a good thing I decided to accompany Marianne last minute.

Awkwardly fiddling with her fingers, the soft spoken girl refused to look up at me as she spoke. "I-I'm really happy to have you as my professor..." She said at nothing above a whisper, just loud enough for me to barely hear. "Thank you f-for spending time with me."

"You don't need to thank me for something I truly enjoy doing, Marianne." I responded with a tender smile.

"But I do. No one has ever spent time with me simply because they wanted to."

"Now I'm sure that isn't true."

Marianne caved in on herself some. "I don't know Professor..."

"You and Hilda went out yesterday, didn't you? And I know Linhardt and Lorenz have been sitting with you at lunch lately too so you can't exactly say no one is spending time with you because they don't want to." I said knowingly. "If anything, the more you open up, the more everyone wants to get to know you." Now looking up to the monastery, I couldn't help but smile. "Maybe not now, but later I'm sure you'll see what I mean when I say you're a lovely young woman Marianne. I look forward to spending the rest of our time here at Garreg Mach together and watching as you continue to grow."

Going quiet once more, Marianne looked to me with a ghost of a smile spread across her lips. I smiled back at her as we started up the steps leading to the monastery.

"Professor," she said softly just as we were reaching the top of the stairs, her voice holding a warmth to it that's rare to hear coming from her, "I don't want you to ever leave."

Glancing to the shy girl, I nodded. "Of course. I'll always be here for you Marianne. Always."
