Chapter 3: Something Happened

I woke up the next morning and I knew something wasn't right. Wet droplets of water were coming from the white sky. I checked my clock it was nine o'clock in the morning. My closet was full of brilliant colors, unlike the sky. I put on the first thing I pulled out like I always do and put it on. Next, I checked my phone. Ryan texted me my name more times than I could count. How the heck did he get my number? I asked myself. I responded to him. All he said back was come over my house now! It's across the street from your house. The new people who moved in across the street! It all makes sense now. I followed my instinct and ran in the rain to the yellow house next door. The white door gleaming with rain was unlocked.

I walked in, the first thing I saw was Ryan sobbing.

"Ryan" I gasp. There was no answer. I rushed over to Ryan's side on the couch. I felt like Ryan was a dog and I was his owner. Ryan's clothes were all wet like the rain outside but I knew he didn't go outside. Ryan's short yellow hair was not brushed. I stared into his amber eyes. Then I sat by Ryan for two hours until he got up and started walking to a door on the other side of his house. I took small steps so Ryan could stop me if he wanted to. But he didn't. He sat on his bed which had red and green strips on it.

"Hi," Ryan said. His voice was very weak like a mouse's voice. I walked over to where Ryan was sitting.

"Ryan, what happened?" I said casually, trying not to make him cry again.

"Cynthia, I really don't know. I got a call from an unknown number late last night that just said, Sorry, your dad died, and that's it. When my Mom died it left a scar on my heart but now my Dad" His words came out fast, every word he was fighting the urge to cry. I didn't know what to say. I just sat there. A weird person? Is this even true? Is Ryan's Dad really dead? I don't know, I can't tell! This is all confusing!

"Oh, Ryan maybe you will feel better after you sleep," I said hopeful that he would.

"I can't," He said. He lays down then turns to his side. Once he was asleep I sat in a chair next to his bed and waited till he woke up. I got Ryan's daytime clothes out and a brush. The brush was easy to find because it was on his dresser where I got the clothes from. I handed Ryan his clothes and left his room so he could get dressed. When I came back in Ryan was fully dressed."Thanks for getting my stuff out." Ryan said. He sounded better but still not like himself or the self I heard on the day that I meet him. That sweet Ryan!

"I'm going now, Ryan," I said.

"Alright, " Ryan said very softly. And with that, I left.

As I was walking out the door I remembered all that I learned today. It's so much information to process in my head. Ryan was the person who came up to me. Both his parents have died or Ryan thinks they are dead from a phone call. I have no idea. How did Ryan get my number? Those questions will have to say unanswered until I find out the answers. Which I WILL find! I looked back and forth to see if any cars were coming. There wasn't any so I crossed the street.
