Shades Of Black

70 12 3

Grey-black,

The gloomy color of my cell,

Storm-black,

In jail you're never really well,

Iron-black,

The restrictions: the chains and the bars

Blue-black,

The bruises, the cuts and the scars

Midnight-black,

After serving for countless years, then

Glowing-black,

I form a plan to see the sun again

Twilight-black,

Will it work? Will I be free?

Smooth-black,

Yes! All I need is around me

Steel-black,

I leave the metal door behind

Silver-black,

Sprinting, to buy myself time

Darkest-black,

I tiptoe across the dark corridors

Ghost-black,

Unaware of the shadows on the floor

Shining-black,

The exit is just to my right

Leather-black,

But police with guns block the light

Thunder-black,

As I run, my heart skips a beat

Dirt-black,

But then I fall onto the street

Onyx-black,

A bullet in my back stops my breath

Null-black,

I fall into the waiting arms of Death.

AN: I showed this poem to someone, and they immediately said, "Have you watched Shawshank Redemption?" So for the record, that was not my inspiration. However, I did read it after that person mentioned it. So if you want some fairly light reading, you might want to read it. But beware, this is PG, while Shawshank Redemption is most definitely an R.

Inspiration for this poem: I was walking around a bookshop and I saw this book called 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'. Then I thought, "Meh. It would be more interesting if they did shades of white or black." And my favourite color was black at that point in time, so I made it 'Shades Of Black'.
