facades.

everywhere and nowhere.
barbed sugar thorns,
a saccharine veneer
tinged rose-blush pink
and coated in bitter honey.

it was all a play.

shaking hands and tight smiles
raising flutes and simple wiles
watching crowds toast to your death
enemies suddenly becoming your friends
while i choke on silence
and the words i never said.

i still wear the mask today.
