I saw Becca staring at me. As I was lifting the weights I could feel her gaze burning a hole in my chest. Other girls were staring as well but I barely noticed them. I was lifting fifty pound weights on each side of the metal rod for the past ten minutes. Obviously since I’m a Faded Shadow, all of my abilities are stronger then a human’s. Lifting one hundred pounds was an insanely heavy amount for a teenager already, so I didn’t want to push the limits of what people will believe. Though it wasn’t much, I did work up a sweat. Deciding I was done for the period, I switched spots with my spotter who I learned was named Dylan Saltzman. He started off with twenty on each side then thirty then ended with a forty on each side. When he was at the forty, he was already starting to struggle a little. Getting ready to catch the rod any moment, Dylan did a few last pumps and then rested it back on the resting space. “Nice job.” I said to Dylan while he was wiping his face with a towel. “Thanks. You are beast for lifting, do you practice?” He asked then taking a long drink of his water. “Occasionally” I replied. “Well that’s pretty good for occasionally.” I laughed a little and said “Yeah I guess, thanks.” “So how are you liking Century High?” I pondered on the question a little and replied with “Well it’s only my first day but it seems like a good school. How long have you been here for?” “I started in freshman year.” “Are you in any teams? ’Cause you’re pretty good at weights and running yourself.” I asked. “Well I was on the lacrosse team until they canceled it. They said that funding wasn’t too great and this school mainly supports football.” I nodded understandingly and said “Maybe you should try out for football.” He laughed and said “Lacrosse and football are pretty similar but football is not really my thing. For school teams, I think I’ll stick to track.” He replied. “Hey do you know anything about that girl?” I motioned my head toward where Becca was sitting talking to a few girls. “Becca Thomas? Yeah she’s in my math class. She started school here at freshman year too. I don’t know much about her but she is a whiz in math and is smokin’” “I agree.” We both laughed and continued to talk. It turns out that Dylan is friends with Becca’s friend Jules. He was thinking about joining the soccer team and talked about how the soccer team and football team were the two main sports at our school. Century High had won almost all the championships for the sport. We walked to the showers and got changed as Dylan said “Jules is hosting a party tonight and he said we could each bring a few buds. Wanna come? There will be beer...” I laughed. “Count me in.” He smiled and said “Let’s grab something to eat. Fancy any cafeteria sandwiches?” He said sarcastically. I knew that I was gonna like this guy; I could see him as a potential friend. “For sure” We left the change room the bell just rang for lunch and went to our own lockers to grab some cash and put away our stuff. On my way to the lunch room I saw the senior I met this morning walk by me and give me a cold stare. His friends didn’t acknowledge me and continued to walk. The specific senior let out a grunt when he passed me but didn’t try to start a fight. Smiling past him, I was glad that he learned that I was not to be messed with.
