Cassius's POV
I felt like bashing my head into a brick wall repeatedly. How the hell could I forget about having to mate with Maddox? I will admit, when I got to the age to find my mate, I did feel attracted to Maddox. I never admitted to anyone, not even myself. I always shoved that feeling away, finding it too cringy and sick. After all, I have known him as my brother, not as my mate. We were step siblings so I understand that since we weren't blood we were able to mate, but why the hell didn't I remember that little part?
Because you were in denial, my wolf told me.
You could have reminded me, I snapped at him.
He gave a wolfy chuckle, I thought it more fun to let the realization hit you. I was not disappointed.
I rolled my eyes. Furry bastard, I thought. I pushed him to the back of my mind. "What's wrong honey," my mom said as she came into the kitchen. "I have to mate with Maddox," I told her. "That's what's wrong." "What's so wrong about it," she asked him. "Is it because he's a guy?" I scoffed, "No. It's because that guy is Maddox, my brother." "With Tempest in your lives now, you have to stop seeing yourselves as brothers, and start seeing yourselves as mates. If you're not careful, those thoughts will cause you to unintentionally reject each other," she told me. That made my blood freeze. "I thought rejection only happened if you said the official rejection statement," I asked her.
She shook her head, "No honey. Rejection always starts in the mind. It's why sometimes the rejection doesn't always work, because the person stating the rejection verbally, mentally doesn't want too. While others are rejected before the statement is said. The mind is a powerful thing. Use it wisely." She then kissed my cheek before grabbing a bottle of wine from the fridge. "Just follow your instincts, you boys are good at that."
She left after grabbing some glasses and Maddox came in. Since we got back a couple days ago, we haven't really talked much. Tempest, bless her, has tried getting us to spend time together, but when we do, we don't really talk. He sat next to me at the island. "It's weird," he told me. I nodded in agreement, "Yeah it is." "I'm ready to give it a shot though," He told me. I smiled, "I am too." We then fell into silence and Tempest came in, wearing a pair of blue and white sweatpants, a shirt with the poison apple from Snow White on it, and her hair was in a messy bun, held up by chopsticks with crystals on the ends. "I hope you guys have ended the whole silent treatment towards each other," she said, hope shinning in her eyes. I nodded, "Yeah baby, we did." She smiled, "Finally. The silence between you two was killing me." Maddox chuckled softly, "No more silent treatments, we promise."
"That is amazing," she said honestly. "And to kick it off, I'm taking the both of you out on a date tomorrow night," I announced to them. I noticed Maddox ears become a slight shade of pink as Tempest smiled. I poked Maddox's cheek teasingly, and he growled playfully. I chuckled before glancing at the time. I sighed as I stood, time for patrol. "It's my shift for patrol, you guys don't wait up," I was headed for the back door when Maddox caught my wrist. I looked back at the two of them, and I could see the worry in their eyes. "Be careful," Maddox said to me. I gave them a reassuring smile, "I will, I promise."
Maddox's POV.
After Cassius went to go patrol, Tempest and I went upstairs. I looked at our room and hated seeing our mattresses back in our rooms, with the couch back where it goes. I had grown comfortable with sharing a bed with the both of them while at the palace. "Are you okay Maddox," Tempest asked me. "I may have gotten used to all of us sleeping in the same bed," I confessed to her. She smiled, "I did too." I smiled back, "So let's fix it."
We rearranged the furniture and pulled out the mattresses and box springs and set them up on the floor. We covered the bed in our pillows and blankets. After that I went and took a shower while she went downstairs to get something to eat. As I stood beneath the spray of the water, my mind kept drifting to thoughts about tomorrow night. What exactly does he have planned? With Cassius you never know.
I got out of the shower and put on some basketball shorts before leaving the bathroom. Tempest laid sprawled out on the bed, a bag of pretzels before her. She munched on them as she watched TV. "Do you watch anything besides anime," I asked as I laid down. "Not really. I watch various things on Animal Planet and that home make over channel," she said. "Anime has such a large variety and when the characters make mistakes they tend to be funny while watching people I cant help but ask where their common sense was."
I had to give her that. I took a handful of pretzels and began to talk to her about various animes that she watches. There wasn't much she didn't watch. Neither of us realized the time we stayed up talking until Cassius came in, covered in sweat from his patrol. He smiled and went into his room to grab some clothes before going to take a shower. I grabbed the empty pretzel bag and threw it away. I crawled into the bed and laid my arm across Tempest.
Cassius came out of the bathroom shirtless and crawled into bed with us. "So do we get any hint about our date tomorrow," Tempest asked as she rolled over to face him, her back pressed against me. "Dress nice," He told us with a smile. "And be ready by seven."
She laid her head on his chest and I moved my arm so it went across the both of them. My mates. Not one, but two. Cassius being my mate isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I just pray he truly does feel the same.
