"I think with a little bit of magic in your life, you can do anything." The whole class applauded the 16 year-old elf standing in front of them. His name is Ian Lightfoot, younger brother to Barley Lightfoot, and the wizard kid who destroyed and rebuilt the school. You already know his story, as do I, but you don't know so much about me. Hi, my name is Gail Eukaryotic. Yes, like the cell, and yes, Gail is short for Abigail. Why didn't my parents want to just call me Abby? I don't know but I guess that's what makes me unique. Well, and my bright and straight teal hair. Like Ian, I'm a 16 year-old blue skinned elf and USUAlLY, elves tend to have blue and dark purple hair, with me being the only exception. Have I been bullied because of this? No. But it does draw a lot of eyes when I'm walking home from school. Anyway, back to the story.
The bell rang and everyone began packing their bags, some of them even coming up to Ian to touch his staff and ask him questions. I slouched my bag over my shoulder and headed outside. It was a beautiful afternoon. I breathed in the fresh spring air and watched my classmates gather outside to talk to Ian more. I wasn't much for chit chat so I decided to take advantage of this amazing weather and head to the park. It honestly wasn't a long walk. The sidewalk was slightly cracked and empty, but the block was full of life. Officer Bronco was taking his daily check in at the donut shop and pixies where arm wrestling on top of buildings. I smiled as I shoved my hangs into my jeans. Wait nevermind. Girl jeans don't come with pockets. I sighed and continued my little adventure. I passed my mom working at the hairdresser. She turned around to see me through the glass. She waved her usual big wave and accidently cut her patient's hair too short on one side with the scissors in her remaining hand. I winced as she turned back to see her patient astounded. My mom rushed to the front of her to apologize but the patient turned her hand towards her and started playing with her new look. Boy, was she a happy goblin. I giggled and went on further.
When I had just about reached the park. I saw a couple of classmates from my science class all gathered around in a circle but my attention to them was diverted when I saw Barley's minivan fly through the sky in our direction. My draw dropped as I saw Ian step out and yell, "Bridgerigor Invisia!" My jaw dropped even further as I saw him walk on fricken air! The group of kids from my class began chanting his name. "Ian! Ian! Ian!" But that's when it all went south.
Ian was looking pretty confident so much so that he started to take slower steps and close his eyes. He was kind of a showoff but that didn't stop the applause. Then, out of nowhere, a pixie came flying through while holding a lottery ticket right up against their face, blocking any sort of ability to see past her. I breathed in, knowing what was about to go down. And yes, as predicted, the pixie hit Ian square in the nose. What had I not predicted was how high he still was and how he was practically linear from me. So, as the wand was struck from his hands and the pixie went about her day, there he was, the 16 year-old elf, falling right towards me. This is how I die. I had a good run. Didn't make many friends, moved here last year, can't catch a ball, but still have a good life. I closed my eyes and felt his featherweight body crush me.
"I'm alive!!" I opened my eyes and cheered, as well did Ian in unison. His body was sprawled on top of mine. Little did I know that he would fall almost perfectly on me and by that I mean, we were stuck looking into each other's eyes!! Forget about personal space now cause my limbs are so sore I can't move him. In that moment I learned that he had chocolate brown eyes, contrary to my blue ones, and several freckles dotted across his cheeks. He opened his mouth to speak again but all that came out was, "I- I- I," as his face grew as red as the tomatoes in the town market.
"Hi," I wheezed as I regained the oxygen that was forced out of me during contact. He pushed himself up and stood above me with one hand clenched in a tight fist and the other scratching his head. "I'm so so so sorry!!" He cried as he took his clenched hand and held it out to me to take.
"It's cool, my textbooks broke my fall." I winced as he pulled me up. So much hurt and I was getting dizzy. I looked down at my hands to see them scratched and felt my jeans to find out that the back of them were ripped. "Uh-Uh," he stuttered. "Your head is bleeding!" He waved his hands in front of him and began looking around frantically. Apparently his friends had left since I saw them walking away from the scene. I saw him turn around in a full 360 and I saw his eyes dart to the tree next to us. He went over and grabbed the stick hanging from it. Ok, I guess it wasn't really a stick since it was the wand he lost earlier. I think I need to sit down. My body started to sway from side to side. "This isn't right," I muttered as I saw the ground rushing towards me. Then it stopped, as I felt an arm wrap around my waist. I looked up to Ian again with the same worried look. And that was the last thing I saw. This has been a weird day.
