Ok, you can do this. I pushed myself out of bed and stretched. It's the last day of school and I'm so excited. Not only will I not have to see my teachers for three months, I'll be going on an adventure with my best friends.
After taking ten minutes to find a plain T-shirt and jean shorts, I brushed my teeth and brushed my hair. My morning routine is absolutely boring but it gets the job done. I looked at the cupboard holding the makeup my mom bought for me when I was a freshman and contemplated trying some mascara. Nahhhhh. I'm not trying to impress anyone so why should I bother.
It wasn't long before I was heading out the door with a book bag and, now, a tiny wand in hand. I looked up to see a pixie flying with her pet phoenix.  I shouted, "Good morning Ms. Rubert!" She looked down, startled, but still put on a smile. I smiled back and started walking to school. Centaurs were running up and down the street and I saw some of my classmates riding their skateboards on the sidewalk. One of them was a small green cyclops. He was a senior and was showing off to some of the mermaids sitting on their porches. "Skate or die," he cried. Little did he know there was a crack in the pavement. He was sent flying and cried, "Guess I'll dieeeeee." It was truly an interesting sight to see. I laughed and kept going about my day.

When I finally sat down for class, our teacher began his lecture. He was a goblin that needed a stool to see his class but that didn't stop him from throwing markers at kids who were dozing off. He began his lecture with, "Good morning class that I'll never have to see again. Today we are changing the subject a little." He pulled out a box that read Quests of Yore. The class sighed. "Now now. As we learned, this game actually has useful information in it and today," He pulled out a card of green mists circling a mage. "We will be talking about curses."
This was new. Barley didn't know much about curses or how to break them. All he knows is how to avoid a slime cube thing. I leaned in as Mr. Fletch began speaking.
"There are several curses out in this magical world. We can all record the curse that Ian Lightfoot set on the school after taking a phoenix gem but others can occur from spells gone wrong or even evil wizards." He paced around the room, allowing us to only see his black hair bobbing up and down. "How do we reverse these curses or destroy them? Well, I'm not sure! My good friend Corey knows that you can destroy curses with THE CURSE CRUSHER, but if used on a living being, that could seriously hurt them." He hit the board in the back of the room with his ruler. Why he had one, I don't know. But he was pointing to a poorly drawn heart. "You are all going to think this is cheesy and gross, but if we follow the tales of our ancestors, we can see that these curses can be broken with love. However, they can be different types of love. You have your family affection. You have friendship. And you even have the love that binds a princess to her prince charming. It will be your job to figure out which one will work to fix the curse. Because this is Disney."
The bell rang and the students hopped out of their seats to head to the next class. "Drat," stated the teacher. "I forgot there was a shortened schedule. Anywho, have a good break and goooood riddance." I smiled and followed my classmates out the door. I don't want to keep blabbing about this school day cause we didn't actually learn anything sooo yeah, flash forward to the end of the day.
"Yo, Ian," I cried as I saw him standing in the middle of the hallway with a crowd of people. I walked over but was stopped in the middle of my tracks when I saw Ian talking to the science kids. I frowned as they kept saying, "Oh my god Ian, we should totally hang out this summer," and, "Yeah we can work on spells and show them off to the ladieees." I cringed and took a step back from their conversation. I can't stand those guys, just using Ian for popularity. And that purple girl, jeez she gives me the creeps. I turned around and began my journey outside, where Barley was waiting for us with his van. I waved when I saw him make eye contact with me. I hopped down the staircase and opened the trunk. I tossed my bag and cheered, "Barley!! What's up?"
He turned around to face me and put his arm on the back of his chair. "Eh, same old same old. Ma sent me out for errands and I ran into her boyfriend." He rolled his eyes and did a half laugh, half sigh. Barley wasn't a fan of officer Bronco. He loved his dad dearly and can't see another father figure entering his life, especially one who gives him speeding tickets. "Annyyyway," he started. "Where's Ian? Is he trying to get summer work?"
"Not this time Barley," replied an Ian who was looking outside the passenger window. He then proceeded to walk around to sit in the trunk with me. "My friends from science wanted to chat." He gave me a warm smile as he sat across from me. I smiled back, still holding back my previous feelings of those kids.
Without any warning Barley cried, "Let us commence the adventure!!" And he shifted the gear into onward. And just like that, we were off on an extremely bumpy ride to the Manticore's Cavern. Man, I was so ready for this summer. Just time with Barley and Ian. I smiled as we pulled up to the parking lot
