"Hey, have you seen my hat?"
I shouted from the bedroom, "No, Preston! Go look outside, maybe by the garden! That's where I saw you wearing it last!"
He takes his hat off when he gardens, and it gave me and our son the perfect opportunity to steal it. Our boy, Mason, was cooped up with me in the room I shared with his father. He had the hat on his head, and covered his mouth to muffle his giggles. I heard Preston from outside, "It's not out here!"
I shouted back, "I don't know then!"
I heard him sigh, and he came back inside, coming in the room and laying back on the bed, "I don't know where I could've put it..."
Mason was hiding in the closet, and I saw him peeking out. I held a finger to my lips, then put a hand gently on my husbands chest, "Oh, don't worry, Preston... I'm sure it'll turn up soon."
Before I even finished the sentence, Mason ran out, leaping up onto his fathers stomach. Preston let out a grunt, then a laugh, seeing his hat on his sons head. He sat up, holding the six year old in a hug. He looked to me, "The garden, huh?"
I shrugged. Mason pulled away from the hug, giggling like a madman due to his father tickling his ribs. He fell to the side, landing on the bed and making the hat fall from his head. Preston snatched it up and put it on his own head, smiling a little. Mason jumped up on the bed, wrapping his arms around Preston again, stealing the hat then scampering out and slamming the door behind him. Preston shook his head, chuckling, and looked to me, "You're not off the hook either."
I stood up, resting my forearms on his shoulders, "I'm not?"
He put his hands on my hips, kissing me, "No you're not." He bit at his bottom lip, "I'll have to get you for this later, huh?"
"Yep."
He kissed me again, smiling dumbly, then went out to find Mason and get his hat back.
