Maximus's POV
I refused to leave Aspen's side when she lost her vision for fear of her safety.
I knew for a fact that the bullies at our school would LOVE to hurt her.
The poor girl had been hurt far too many times.
As had I, which was why I needed to stay near her.
Despite her obvious dislike of me.
I smiled softly when she murmured sleepily and shifted her body to face me.
In sleep, her face betrayed none of her fight.
She was an angle in sleep.
I wasn't sure if I liked this side of her...
*
The scream that tore from her lips brought us both to alertness.
Aspen's head whipped around in a frantic manner, as if searching for something.
"You alright?" I questioned lightly.
She turned on me, black eyes burning in rage. "I am none of your concern." She hissed.
I arched an eyebrow before knowledge of her predicament returned to me and I spoke.
"If that was so I wouldn't be here."
"I don't need nor want you to be here." She replied flatly.
I flinched inwardly. That had hurt quite a lot.
The look in her eyes was that of conflicting turmoil.
She didn't know what to make of my words. I saw her shoulders relax a fraction of an inch but the movement was enough to relieve me.
She just wasn't sure of where she stood in our relationship.
She made hating me seem realistic.
Her heart wasn't into it, she didn't want to fight me in reality.
And she didn't seem to understand why that was.
Which made her all the more angry.
With herself and in turn, me.
"You know that you can trust me." I kept my voice lowered but made sure that she could hear me.
She twitched in discomfort, confusion clear in her eyes.
"In Hell maybe." She grumbled uncertainly.
What happened next was so confusing and unexpected that I could only stare at her.
"HELP!"
