The freezing freshly fallen snow made my paws numb as I raced across the forest floor. Away from the howls that followed me. They were hunting me. I didn't want to be hunted, and I don't remember doing anything to upset them.

They wanted something from me, that much was clear. The question that plagued my thoughts was what did they want? There's nothing special about me. I'm just like any other she-wolf.

I have midnight black fur with a few white markings here and there, like the tip of my tail and above my vibrant blue eyes, a striking contrast to my normally dull brown eyes. My breathing quickened as I heard them right behind me. Before something big launched toward me from the side, biting at my neck. Breaking skin and drawing crimson ooze to the surface.

The other wolves caught up to me and surrounded me. The leader was a big brown wolf with blood red eyes. My guess, he was a rogue leader.

I wasn't really part of any pack since I was disowned by my parents at 17, and I hadn't been a part of any pack since then. I hadn't found my mate either, but I didn't care. I was happy living my life on the run. Stealing things I needed and hunting for food. I was free and I didn't want to be held down by a mate or a pack at the moment.

"Shift." The leader commanded, standing over me with a threatening expression. I shook my head furiously.

The leader's brows furrowed as he became angry at my disobedience, but I couldn't care less. I wasn't going to shift in front of these rogues and give them the opportunity to take advantage of me. My wolf was my only defense at the moment and I wasn't going to give that up.

The leader stalked towards me, trying to scare me, but it wasn't working. I stood my ground and met his furious red eyes. He may have power where he's from, but in my mind, I am more powerful.

He began circling me, as I lay helplessly on the snow covered ground. My heavy breathing showed by the puffs of fog that left my snout with each breath. His breathing was much more calm and his demeanor radiated that he was used to people submitting to him quickly. He was obviously frustrated with my stubborn nature.

"One more chance." He hissed, now standing right above me. I shook my head again, my eyes showing no fear, but strength and determination.

"So be it." He sighed, lunging toward my neck. I rolled to the side just in time so he got a face full of snow. I couldn't help but let out a wolfy giggle as he stood and charged toward me once again.

I dodged, trying to run to the bushes to hide, but the leader bit my tail and pulled me towards him. I howled in pain and winced as the leader sunk his teeth into my side. He was trying to make me immobile, so I couldn't run again, but I wasn't going to give up that easily. I turned and bit one of his front legs, dragging my teeth downward as he howled in pain.

I looked around, trying to find a way out but instead was met with the other wolves that had chased me running away from the clearing we were fighting in. The leader of the rogues was thrown off me and I was met with the most beautiful set of green eyes I had ever seen. They had stripes of silver and radiated with power. I slightly whimpered at the sight. He was scary and gorgeous.

His wolf was a dark grey color with flecks of white that made him shine in the moons gentle glow. The mysterious wolf turned away from me, searching for my attacker. Although the rogues had all run away now, obviously scared by this wolf's presence.

"Shift." The wolf commanded, meeting my vivid blues once more. I couldn't help but obey. As I shifted, he threw a blanket over my naked form. I looked up to meet his green irises again, and they calmed me, and warmed the pit of my stomach with the feeling of butterflies.

"Mate." He said, stalking towards me. I was trembling with fear and excitement as the cold weather made me shiver. I pulled the blanket closer to my body as he came closer. I could almost feel the heat and power radiating off his body.

As he began circling me, I couldn't help but shrink under his gaze. His demeanor and presence made it clear he was an alpha.
I winced as I remembered the crimson liquid oozing from my wounds. His eyes snapped towards me with worry. He got closer and sniffed the air, then growled. He was angry at my attackers for hurting me. He kneeled down slightly and gestured for me to climb on his back, which I obeyed.

Sparks shot through my body at every point of contact we shared. His soft fur warmed my freezing figure but I still trembled slightly. My mate then shot off into the forest, the direction opposite from where all the rogues ran, as I held on tightly. Blood was quickly leaving my system and I could feel a blanket of darkness coming over me. I fought as long as I could, before the darkness finally won and I slipped into unconsciousness.
