Jay's Perspective
"Silver!" I called as she raced out of the living room. I stepped forward to stop her but Mr. Amber grabbed my arm and shook his head towards me.
"She needs time." He sighed, sitting down on the couch next to his wife. I glanced back toward the front door as it shut behind her, then sat on another couch across from the couple with a sigh.
"Please explain what just happened." I groaned, shutting my eyes in annoyance. I heard them both sigh before Mr. Amber muttered a 'yes, Alpha'.
"Celine ran away about a year or so ago with Dylan." Mrs. Amber began, "They were best friends. Inseparable from the moment they met in the forest when she was about six or seven. We weren't too worried at the time. Aside from the fact he wasn't part of any pack and didn't really have a family, he was a harmless child. One day Dylan came over like he always did to hang out with Celine, but there was something off about him. He seemed more nervous than usual, and when Celine came down, he instantly relaxed and they seemed happier than usual. Wayne and I knew something was up but didn't ask until Celine came back that night."
Mrs. Amber paused, getting choked up from the memories. I sighed again, anger slowly bubbling up inside me. How dare he be alone with my mate!? Instead, Mr. Amber held his wife's hand and continued from where she left off.
"They came back that night while Mardell and I were inside. We could see them talking on the porch together and didn't think anything much of it until we caught them kissing. I was furious because she wasn't at the age to find her mate yet. Personally, Mardell and I were raised to value our mate. After all, you only get one, why waste time on someone you know isn't going to be with you forever? We hoped we'd taught Celine the same thing." I could tell Mr. Amber was getting angry at the memory as he spoke, meanwhile, I was enraged. Just imagining that dirty rogue kissing my mate made me want to find him immediately and snap his neck like a toothpick.
"Apparently not though." Mr. Amber sighed as he continued, "We confronted her after Dylan left. She claimed they were in love. She kept saying things about how she didn't want to be 'reserved' for her mate. She wanted to love who she wanted. Honestly, I sort of agreed, but I was raised to want to love my mate. You're supposed to, after all. I replied with anger and snapped. I regret a lot of words I said that night, but I regret not locking her in her room most of all."
"Wayne." Mrs. Amber cooed, trying to calm her husband. "You shouldn't regret your words. She was being manipulated by him."
"What did you say?" I questioned, turning to Mr. Amber, curiously.
"I said, 'no daughter of mine will be allowed to ruin her life like that.'" Mr. Amber answered, his jaw clenched and eyes narrowed with seriousness. "'I guess I don't want to be your daughter anymore!' She yelled back to me as she ran out the door, chasing after that stupid boy. We haven't seen or heard from her until today."
My jaw was clenched so tightly, I was surprised it wasn't broken. How could a father treat his daughter like that? Let alone say something so terrible?
"She must've changed her name so she didn't have to be associated with us anymore." Mrs. Amber concluded with a sigh.
"Does she claim something else happened?" I asked curiously. I wondered if they knew what she thought of the whole situation. I had to get all the facts before I made any irrational decision. She's my mate after all, and I need her to trust me.
"She claims we disowned her, when in reality she ran away." Mr. Amber replied, his anger subsiding.
"I'm going to go talk to her. Thank you for the information." I sighed, getting up and leaving the house. I didn't care if they said goodbye or what other lies they wanted to feed me. I wanted the truth from Silver or Celine. I also wanted to know which she preferred. Celine was her past and Silver is her future. I didn't want to bring up toxic memories if that's what the name Celine meant to her.
As I stepped outside, I was expecting to see her sitting on the porch or the steps, but she wasn't. I sighed in frustration and turned to go back inside. Her parents held answers that I needed at this point if I wanted the truth.
"Do you know where she went?" I called into the living room as I entered. The couple seemed startled but Mrs. Amber stood and came toward me.
"There's a small waterfall south about 2 miles into the woods from here. It was her favorite spot to think and play games. We would have picnics there when she was younger as well. If she ran off, she's probably there." Mrs. Amber explained. I nodded and left the house, starting to head south. I just hoped she was alright. I cared a lot about her even though we'd just met a couple days ago. She was my mate after all, and the future Luna of this pack. I couldn't let anything bad happen to her.
