"Motherfucker!"

Glaring at my reflection in the bathroom mirror, a slight pounding started up on the left side of my head. A headache came charging in after puzzling over possible ways to hide the hickeys that decorated my neck.

He had lost absolute control last night! It's either that or he has some sort of strange neck fetish.

How in all of creation am I supposed to conceal this? I don't own any clothing that could possibly hide all of those marks and I was so not in mood to wear another sweatshirt unless I planned on looking like a giant gray worm all day.

A knock sounded on the bathroom door dragging me away from mentally cursing Carter to hell and back.

"Beehive? Can you hurry up? I gotta pee." Irritation gnawing at me, I opened the bathroom door and grabbed hold of his shirt, the lovestruck smile he wore upon seeing me immediately falling away. "Good morning, love." he greeted, leaning forward for a kiss.

Shoving his face away, he grunted and protested in mock hurt, giving me a clueless, innocent smile when he caught the death glare I was shooting him.

"What?" he queried, bashfully glancing away whilst fiddling with his towel, no doubt blushing over the fact that I had him trapped against the bathroom door and my body acting as a barrier. He was that easy to read.

I gestured to my neck. "How am I supposed to hide this?"

Frowning in confusion, he glanced to where I had pointed, and a prideful smirk soon curled his lips. "Don't." He leaned forward and kissed my neck.

Is he insane?

"I get it, okay. Some wolves like to brag over the fact that they're sexually active with their mate and wouldn't mind showing it off. I'm not one of them. Maybe if it were one or two hickeys, I wouldn't mind. But this looks really bad!" I gestured to my neck again.

"You really shouldn't hide it." he returned, grabbing hold of my hips, and pulling me closer. "It'll make a statement and let everyone know that I, Carter Hayes, the king of Jasper Falls High, and star quarterback put that there."

An amused grin came down over my face hearing how he had referred to himself when I knew how much he hated it when others listed off his status to make a point. I supposed it was different when he said it. Shaking my head, I tipped my head up and gave him lips a small peck.

"Whatever. Hurry up and shower while I go figure out how to make this look like I didn't fall from flights of stairs."

Before heading downstairs, I went into my room and grabbed up my phone, fussing last minute about how I could conceal the marks. Even if I wore a sweatshirt, it still wouldn't do a good job.

Expelling a defeated sigh, I brought my hands to my neck and made my way into the kitchen, grabbing up two plates and fixing the breakfast meal. Thankfully, everyone else was inside the dining room so I could breathe easily and totter about, throwing our breakfast together.

Wrapping up Carter's plate in food wrap, I gathered both plates and made my way into the kitchen, ensuring to keep my head lowered. I plopped down into a chair and busied myself with anything on my phone so that I didn't have to look up. At least...not until Uncle Beckett left the dining room.

I had no idea what his reaction would be, and I was already nervous about breaking the news to them. I wasn't in the mood to be teased endlessly or possibly lectured. With Uncle Beckett, I never knew. And it helped to focus my attention elsewhere because Muttsey was a lifesaver as he trotted over from his previous spot out on the patio and plopped down at my feet. I busied myself with petting him, the pit pup loving the attention.
