The Maid

Nagising ako sa sobrang init. Gosh, why is it so hot? Is it summer already? Did Nanay forgot to turn on the aircon? I could feel myself sweating.

I got up and my eyes are still half open. I'm so sleepy. I was about to walk when I saw Anna sleeping soundly.

Oh.

I'm in Tondo. I face palmed.

How could I forget? I ran away nga pala. I found my watch on the table near the cabinet and saw that it is still 4 am. This is a first time. I usually woke up late while I was still in Asteria.

And.. was I really that tired na hindi naman ako tinablan ng jetlag?

I don't want to disturb Anna so I went down. I saw a short-haired woman cooking in the kitchen. She looked at me a bit shocked.

"Uhm, good morning po. I'm Tati. Ikaw po ba si Charita? Yung kamag-anak ni Amanda Cruz?"

"Ah.. Oo!

I thought she was the sane age as Nanay Amanda but I think she's years younger, she's maybe in her 40's. I could tell from the way she talks that she's kind.

"Okay lang po! I should be the one saying sorry kasi hindi ko po kayo nahintay dahil nakatulog ako.

I went there to take a seat. I can't imagine that she wakes up this early and sleeps so late? I'm so amazed. May time pa siyang mag-alaga ng kaniyang mga anak habang kami nakikita lang namin si Mommy at least two times a week. And that's mostly because of formal gatherings. She never do things for us, except marrying off her children. I sighed.

I wish my mom could be this caring.

"Okay ka lang ba ineng? Hindi mo ba gusto ang pagkain? Ipagluluto kita ng bago." She said na parang natataranta.

What did I do to deserve this people? Why are they so kind to me? My eyes started to water.

My god, I've never been this emotional.

She was about to get my plate but I hold her hand.

"I'm so sorry po. There's nothing wrong with the food. It's just that... I'm really thankful.

She was shocked. Then she hugged me. "Naku! Akala ko kung ano na. Sus! She then gave me an assuring smile which made me cried more.

My mother never looked at me like that. I doubt she even looks at us.

After that heartwarming breakfast, Nanay Rita lead me to their bathroom. I got my clothes and went inside. I was busy looking for the shower but I really couldn't find one. There is also no faucet. But I found a blue big container and saw water in it. I also saw a water dipper. This must be the one they use for showering.
