FRANCIS WANTED THE ACTORS THAT PLAYED GREASERS TO REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT A GREASER WAS, BEYOND A STEREOTYPE. IN ORDER TO DO THAT, HE HAD THEM SLEEPOVER AT REAL-LIFE GREASER'S HOUSES AND GET TO KNOW THEM.
Coppola made the gang sleepover at a real "Greaser's" house, in order to kind of "live the life" of a Greaser and get to know some real Greasers personally. Rob Lowe (Sodapop Curtis) and Tom Cruise (Steve Randall) had a very warm heart-to-heart conversation with the couple and got to talk to them about their childhood, being Greasers and all.
