Merlin told herself that if she was going to die. She was going to go out with a legacy on her back.
What she didn't know was that she literally needs to carry her legacy on her back.
And that Prince comes with way too much baggage.

"You're-t...
Merlin and Edwyn raced towards the inner town loud laughs escaping their lips as they maneuvered their way around the passing people of the lower town.
Merlin couldn't keep the grin off her pretty face as they passed the two guards manning the gate to the higher town. They stood on either end, dressed in chainmail and the colours of the Pendragon house.
Red and gold.
Merlin smiled at them as they passed, her grey-blue eyes though mostly blue at the moment were sparkling with childlike excitement.
In her five years of travelling with her mentors she had never taken the time to truly look at town life. She loved it, she smiled brightly as people went on with their some smiled back, some ignored her, others watched her suspiciously.
The large sword on her back and the dagger on her thigh a question for many.
Yet it didn't bother her as her nose drew her in the direction of baked goods.
She grabbed Edwyn's hand with her own leading towards it, he didn't complain. They were both hungry some bread and cake would do them wonders.
~~~
Merlin and Edwyn found themselves snacking happily on warm bread and lemon cakes, the two excitedly pointing out their favourite parts of the town.
Loud horns thundered over the bustling town and they watched as many of the civilians. Curiously they followed the flow. Many were whispering quickly to one another as they rushed towards the town square.
The duo found themselves in a crowd and there in the middle of the square was a wooden stage and on that stage a block. Stained red with the blood of many victims. Next it stood a man with a dark mask over his face. An executioner. Around the stage on either side was a gusted they used a spear horizontally to keep the civilians away.
Her appetite escaped her as her stomach swirled. The sound of drums echoes in her ears and Edwyn's hand grabbed her own when they spotted the man being roughly led into the centre of the square.
"Let this serve as a lesson to all!" A voice thundered from above the crowd to the right. Merlin, Edwyn and many others jerked to look up at the man who spoke.
The King.
King Uther of Camelot.
Merlin with held a sneer.
He wore his house colours, red and gold. He stood tall and regal and ruthless as he barely glanced at the subjects below him. Either side him stood a knight armed and at the ready should anyone step up to try and harm the king. Next to the knight on the left we're two men Merlin thought to be advisors. Farther away from the king were two more guards.
