𝕳𝖊𝖗 𝕹𝖆𝖒𝖊...."What—What happened?! What's happening?!"
"Relax, Merlin, you're safe, you're going to be fine."
"It hurts!"
Merlin released a sharp exhale as her fingers applied the cold ointment to the gnarly scar that on her tail bone. It was fat and long, trailing up from her tail bone to just below her mid-back. The scar tissue was black compared to what her other scars looked like. It looked as if someone had painted it with a brush filled with charcoal paint.
The ointment Gaius has provided sent a cool feeling down into her bones that caused immediate relief to the area, the uncomfortable throbbing dulling considerably and Merlin released a sigh of relief as her muscles uncoiled.
After she was released from the stocks, she could barely walk, Edwyn had to practically carry her to Gaius' chambers. The old man held many questions but Merlin had refused to give him details on what caused the pain, she refused to let him examine her.
Which may have been foolish on her part, but Merlin did not wish to explain the scar most definitely caused by a creature of black magic. It would raise too many questions, ones she was unwilling to answer.
Seeing how Merlin was uncomfortable with the subject Gaius whipped up simple ointment meant for chronic pains and Merlin was quick in locking herself in her room.
A knock on her door caused her to drop the back of her oversized shirt.
"Come in," she called sealing the jar of pale blue ointment.
Edwyn peaked his head through the door holding his pale lute in his hands. He held a small shy grin on his face, a grin he only got when he was writing a new song.
"You wanna listen?"
Merlin gave him a smile before setting the jar, on her night and motioned him forward.
"Always."
Edwyn gave her a bright smile before padding over to the single bed, he had discarded his shoes somewhere. The shuffled so they sat face to face cross-legged.
Edwyn smiled and began to strum his lute, it was a soft tune, not overpowering.
"These scars long have yearned for your tender caress," he sang softly and Merlin couldn't stop the smile from crossing her face as she listened to him sing for her.
"To bind our fortunes, damn what the stars own,
Rend my heart open, your love profess,
A winding weaving fate to which we both atone," He continued to sing his fingers moving nimbly along his lute. A song meant for his favourite love story. "You flee my dream come the morning,
Your scent — berries tart, lilac sweet,
To dream of raven locks entwisted, stormy
Of violet eyes, glistening as you weep."Love was something Edwyn was good at singing for, love stories that have happened, are happening or are waiting to happen.
If only he knew how real the story he sang for was.
She met the woman once before, it was not too long after she was injured. Merlin could never understand how one woman could cause so much pain to the one she claimed to love. Yet she could understand how the woman feared for her heart if she stayed.
She refused to think of it as she leaned back against the cool wall listening to Edwyn sing what he knows best.
And as he sang, she couldn't help but wonder how a man could sing about love so well yet hold the most unfortunate luck when pursuing it.
