The bard was quick to fall asleep after kicking off his shoes, completely disregarding his need to wash.
In the middle of the room where a nightstand sat, his prized lute sat against it. It was made of pale oak and engrained with images of some of their favourite stories. Merlin looked at it and smiled softly. She remembers when she had it made for his birthday.
She thought was when Edwyn truly felt welcomed in her presence. He treated the lute like it was gold.
She smiled down at him, he laid on his stomach his doublet and shoes abandoned on the floor. His dark brown hair was a mess atop his head as he buried his face into the pillow. One arm and one leg were thrown off the side of the bed.
She reached down caressing the side of his face softly. She smiled down at him one more dime before turning her attention away towards the wooden shutters. She could hear the life outside.
Disregarding the towel she climbed up the desk to the shutter and pulled them open. It was a beautiful sight. It was past dusk the sky was a royal blue and the moon was full that night.
It shone brightly down into the kingdom of Camelot and Merlin took her time to admire it. She wanted to paint it. Even just sketch it but she left her supplies and her work back in Ealdor, her mother wanted to keep some of the things her daughter had created during her time. Merlin could never refuse her.
She made a mental note to buy new supplies in the morning.
For now she would just admire it.

On the other side of the door Gaius sat down to read the letter his old friend had sent him. With his glasses on his crooked nose he opened the letter to read in the dim candlelight.
My dear Gaius,
I turn to you for I feel lost and alone, and don't know who to trust. It is every mother's fate to think her child is special, and yet I would give my life that Merlin was not so.
Ours is a small village, Merlin has always so clearly been at odds with those around her.
She is a restless soul, the small village is everything she so despises in life. She ran away at thirteen, I didn't see her face for five years, I could barely recognize my daughter's face when she returned.
A year she has stayed with me and I can see her restless nature coming to odds with those around her once again.
I fear what may become of my little girl if she were to remain.
She needs a hand to hold; A voice to guide. Someone that might help her find a purpose for her gifts.
I beg you. I hope you understand a mother's love for her daughter, keep her safe and may God save you both.Hunith .
Gaius pulled off his glasses and sighed, looking towards the wooden door that separates him from the two younger people.
With quiet deliberation he folded the parchment back up.
Merlin ran away at a very young age, he noted. Restlessness May have been the reason but even the most restless wouldn't completely leave their loved ones behind.

"Merlin.""Merlin?"
Merlin's body jerked as she awoke, sunlight streamed through the wooden shutters of the window. She looked around her everything blurred trying to piece together where she was.
