"Edwyn?"
The Bard looked up from his song book, which he had been bent over for the better of the morning his quill scribbling with new ideas and thoughts.
"Hmm?"
"I have a few questions," the physician started as he studied a piece of dead skin. Edwyn didn't even want to know from what.
"About?"
"What's your relationship with Hunnith?"
"Mine or Merlin's?" Edwyn wasn't stupid, he knew a prier when he saw one.
The old man sighed, "Yesterday when I brought her mother up, there was this look that crossed her face, and I can't understand it," Gaius confessed, the look that crossed Merlin's face had been on his mind since the day before. He couldn't shake it.
Edwyn didn't answer as he looked at the kind old man with a weary expression the ink on his quill drying as it hovered in the air.
He didn't want to answer but he didn't want to say nothing either. He didn't want Gaius to see Merlin as problematic.
"I love my mother," Merlin's voice filtered into the room as she strode in her face tired and devoid of emotion. Her eyes though spoke volumes as she looked at Gaius.
She didn't seem angered or saddened by the topic at hand, just tired. "I love her with all my being, it's just that she can be a bit," she trailed off looking for the right word.
Edwyn was quick in piping in, "Difficult."
Merlin pointed at him in confirmation, "Yes, she can be a bit difficult, she especially becomes a bit difficult when it comes to owning up to her actions. She's good at passing on guilt," there it was, Gaius noticed, the dark flash of anger or resentment, once again he did not know but at the moment he was satisfied.
Merlin looked up at her mother, eyes the colour steel, grief and anger etched into her cheeks, like a a needle stitched them into her skin , forcing her to wear them like silk.
"How could you do that to me?" she hissed through gritted teeth, unable to open her mouth to let the light in, wanting the swallow the darkness letting it consume her from the inside out.
Hunnish looked down at her daughter an expression devoid of guilt, devoid of apology, "I didn't do anything, Merlin, now sit and eat."
"I don't think I can look at you and try to stomach anything you make, I am still trying to digest the fact that you betrayed me so blatantly, your own daughter!"
Hunnith fixed her daughter with a look that could curdle milk, "I didn't do anything. Now stop being over dramatic and eat your food, so help me Merlin Wylt if you don't-."
"Or you'll what?" Merlin asked, "You'll hurt me? You've already done that. Beat me? No you'd never do that to me you'll just get someone else to do it," Merlin's chest heaved as she repressed the sobs building within her.
It was silent for a long moment, Hunnith's shoulders shook with every weary breath she took. It took a moment, the woman pursed her lips as she stared at the bowl of vegetable soup. "I would never do that to you Merlin, you are my child. My daughter. Everything I do is for your happiness for you well being."
"It doesn't feel like it."
Again silence, only this time Hunnith stared at her daughter with a blank look and Merlin exhaled.
