CHAPTER 4

Tessa's P. O. V
  "This ones for you baby" Jake said as he pointed to his 'new' girl, I snorted in disgust
Jake started singing and everybodys face was scrunching up. The chorus came and Jake tried going high, he sounded more like a dying cat. I couldn't hold it in, I laughed out loud clutching my stomach, Derek was laughing too, he fell to the floor. People started laughing, some booed and some where shouting 'get off the stage' everything was just so hilarious, I looked at him, he was mortified.  He came down to his seat just to find it empty... His girl left him... I felt bad for him... Who am I kidding I was glad.
"Am sorry man.. I didn't know you were that bad, I wouldn't have done it" Derek confessed, Jake walked up to Derek
"What's your name" he asked
"Derek" he answered laughing
Jake walked up to the stage  "let's welcome my friend Derek,"  my jaw dropped.
"Enjoy the show" he whispered and stood up giving me that cocky grin and wink
"Oh I will" I smirked
Derek folded his sleeves as he was walking up to stage with slow confident strides, I had a thing for rolled up sleeves on men.. I looked away and sure enough women we're staring at him lustfully... I mean I don't blame them his mouthwateringly (if that's  a word)  hot
"Derek choose a song" Jake told him, Derek scanned the list and chose all by myself... Good thing Lizzy taught him that song
"And please take it easy on him, he's not as good as I am"Jake boasted
"I bet anyone is better than your fat ass" somebody yelled from across... My dad..  everyone laughed.  My dad hates his guts  after what he did to me.
"Oh really Mr Wright, wanna bet on it"Jake asked "yeah I do" my dad said not smiling,  uh oh,  shit just got real.
"Alright then, two thousand dollars" Jake said and people gasped "deal" my dad said smirking and looking at me. I shook my head and mouthed 'no'. Things were a bit shaky here in the ranch and dad was betting.
"Have faith in me cupcake" Derek said smirking at me, everyone turned to look at me, I bowed my head in embarrassment, I'll kill him. Choruses of 'awwn' and 'so sweet' echoed across the room.... I palmed my face, they probably thought we were dating.
I looked up at Derek messing with the piano, he look like he was amazed then he sat down and started playing a soft tune. He adjusted the mic to himself and continued playing then he started singing.  His voice was.... Beautiful... I never thought a guy with his kind of baritone could sing this song so well.....I was trapped in his song, his husky baritone entranced me. I locked everyone out, it was just me and him.. I mean his voice.
The way his fingers moved on the piano, I looked at Jake, his mouth was hanging open... He just lost two thousand dollars
                      All by myself
       Don't wanna be all by myself

He paused and looked at me
        
                   Anymore....
He then closed his eyes as he kept dragging the 'moooore' for a really long time, my jaw dropped.... People started applauding, that was lit. Who knew he could go on for that long
He was good, he a was really good.  He stood up and gave an exaggerated bow and walked off the stage, people started surrounding him, then my dad walked up to him.

Derek's P. O. V
  "Derek that was good, you just won me two thousand dollars" Mr Wright said walking up to me
"Am glad I did.... That should cover my bills" I joked and we laughed "yes it should"he added. Then we went silent
"Derek..... Do you like my daughter" Mr Wright asked out of nowhere
"Yeah she's nice, caring, frie- "
"No I meant do you like her like her"
I swallowed "well I do have a bit of a crush on her"
"I just want to let you know that if you hurt my daughter in any way I'll fucking kill you"
He just smiled at me and walked away
"Just so you know he means it" a guy beside me said, my smile faded "yeah thanks for that bit of information" I retorted sarcastically
"you're welcome... that man is scary" the guy added and walked off.

I found Tessa on her way out "woah woah, you're not gonna tell me how good I am? That's bad, very bad" I feigned hurt
"Oh cupcake I'm sorry" she said sarcastically and rolled her eyes, I laughed.
"Are you mad, I did it for you, you know, to make him jealous" I nudged her playfully
"Uh I didn't ask you to, I was okay" she turned away
"Hey he's clearly moved on and clearly came to rub it in your face, I don't know why since he's the one who broke up with you,  that was a childish move"
"And who says he's the one that broke up with me"she asked turning to face me
"Cause I know you didn't" I told her placing my hand on her shoulder.
"Awwn you two are so cute, i remember when we were your age, we used to party hard and do a lot of crazy stuffs, right Harold " a grandma told us and directed the last part to her husband "that's right, we used to kiss on the streets, I know that's what you're about to do.. We'll  leave you to it" the man said winking
"I never knew old people could wink" Tessa said straight faced and I laughed
"Well now you do" I joked.

      Tessa and I were sitting by the lake staring at the stars
"Wow they're beautiful" she said
"Yeah beautiful" I said but I was looking at her, she was gorgeous, her hazel eyes were glittering in the moonlight
"My mom used to bring me here, when I was little, we would chase butterflies and she'll  sing to me and sometimes we would paint, we have a lot of memories here"she said shaking her head
"One time we we're playing hide and seek, I was seeking, my parents were hiding, I searched everywhere for them, I didn't know that they're were hiding inside the water " she chuckled shaking her head, I smiled "really? " I asked
"Yeah, and they'll come up for air every now and then, I finally caught them,  I made them work for me for a week not that I did much anyways" she laughed but tears were streaming down her face now, she wiped them with the back of her hand and sniffed.
"I'm sorry I'm getting emotional" she laughed, I leaned in, I wanted to kiss her, but I didn't want to ruin everything by being selfish.. I refrained
"You miss her, its entirely normal" I told her
"No no... I shouldn't pour it all on you, I'm a bitch" she retorted
"No you're not,  you know what, let it all out, just cry and ease yourself, stop holding it in" I told her and she let go, she started crying and I held her to my chest, as she cried.
    We were standing in front of Tessa's house, did I tell you, I didn't exactly leave under the same roof as them, I lived beside them in a cabin or something.. I dunno.
"Thanks for tonight" she said, I gave her a puzzled look "for everything, winning the bet.. " she chuckled and smiled "for comforting me, thank you for being there" she added
"Its cool really" I told her honestly
"Goodnight Derek" she told me, I leaned in a gave her a kiss on her cheek, was I forward..... Naa "Goodnight Tessa" and she walked in, I turned to go to my room.
I stopped right in front of my door, I couldn't keep it in, I ran back  to her house and knocked, the door opened
"Derek... You don't need to knock yo-" I ran past him up to Tessa's room and knocked,  she opened she looked up at me confused
"Derek what are you-" I leaned in and I kissed her, she tensed and I placed my hand around her waist and pulled her closer and she responded, she placed one hand on my chest and snaked the other round my neck, i trailed my tongue on her lip and she opened up and I snaked my tongue into her mouth, we kissed for sometime then i pulled away my mouth still hovering against hers
"I've been meaning to do that for a while now" I  said and leaned in to kiss her again more passionately, she pulled my hair, I moaned in her mouth, she tensed and pulled away breathing heavily, I was trying to catch my breath too.,
"Uhm... You sh.. Should go, goodnight"she said and shut the door, I touched my lips
"Goodnight" I whispered more to myself,  I hope I didn't fuck up.
I walked downstairs to see Mr Wright waiting by the door "goodnight Derek, by the way I like the new color of your lips" I turned to look at him, he smiled and winked at me. I chuckled nervously "thank you".
