Jack could sense the change in Joelle that had occurred over the past few days. She was quieter and she was uninspired to write any music. He had tried to ask her what was wrong so many times but she just brushed it off as if it was nothing but he could tell that it wasn't.
Joelle was currently in the kitchen, cooking dinner for herself and jack since he had had a long and tiring day at training.
The brunette boy was texting his teammates on their WhatsApp group chat when he caught sight of his girlfriend's phone sitting on the arm of the sofa. He picked it up and he automatically felt guilty, knowing that he shouldn't be doing what he was about to do. Joelle would tell him when she was ready but he needed to know what was upsetting her so much.
His fingers moved across the keypad as he typed in her four-digit passcode which was, of course, Kevin's suspected birthday. Jack smiled at her lock screen which was a picture of the two of them after the VMA's a few months back. He shook himself out of his thoughts and got back to what he was supposed to be doing.
After a few minutes of snooping around Joelle's phone and finding nothing, he moved to Instagram and when he looked in her inbox, he immediately knew what was up.
"Jack, can you come-" the curly haired girl stopped her question when she saw that her boyfriend was looking through her phone. She had no idea what was going on because the couple trusted each other with their lives.
"Why didn't you tell me?" The brunette boy looked at his girlfriend, feeling hurt that she was going through all of this alone.
"Because it's stupid. I knew that you would just tell me to ignore it." She sighed and Jack shook his head, going through and deleting all of the negative messages in her inbox and in her comments.
"It's not stupid, Jojo." He used her nickname that he gave to her when he was two years old and couldn't pronounce her name properly. It had stuck ever since.
"You do realise that I go through the same thing, right? Joelle, I could've been there for you." The tanned girl sighed as she knew that he was right. If there was anyone that could relate and help her through the online hate, it was Jack. He was publicly criticised week in and week out and was hated on by rival fans.
"Come here," Jack opened his arms for the girl and she immediately threw herself into them. Joelle forgot about the food that was cooking and let herself enjoy the moment with her boyfriend.
"Remember the lyrics that you wrote?" Jack questioned, recalling the words that she sang on stage to thousands of people to help them in their darkest times.
"No better you than the you that you are and and you don't have to change a thing the world could change its heart." Joelle smiled as her best friend and boyfriend spoke the words to her because if he sang them, he was sure that he would her ears bleed.
"It's easier said than done but you have to try and ignore the hate because it's a minority. Most people love you, myself included." Jack was always the best person to cheer up joelle. he knew what to do in every situation that you could think of and she appreciated that greatly.
"I'm sorry for not telling you. I-" the girl was interrupted by the timer on the oven beeping, telling her that their dinner was finally ready.
Joelle rushed through to the kitchen, Jack not too far behind her and she removed the dish from the oven and placed it on the kitchen counter.
"Looks amazing, like someone in this room." Jack teased as he plated the food onto two plates.
"Shut up." Joelle laughed, pushing his shoulder once he was finished plating the food up.
"Uh, who said I was talking about you?" The brunette boy teased again, receiving another slapped shoulder from his girlfriend as a result.
"Don't be a dick, Jack." She picked up her plate of food and sat down at the dinner table, Jack sitting across from her.
The couple ate in a comfortable silence, both of them lost in their thoughts as they ate.
"I'm not pregnant." Joelle blurted and Jack sighed in despair at the news. both of them were visibly deflated and beginning to think that their chances of conceiving were zero.
"We've been trying for months." Jack pointed out as it had been around four months since they had first thought about wanting to be parents.
"I don't know how much more disappointment I can take." The curly-haired girl sitting across from Jack choked as she finished her dinner and the Brummie boy hated seeing his girlfriend so upset.
"I know but we'll keep trying for the meantime, okay?" Joelle nodded her head at Jack's suggestion even though she found having sex so often to find out that they weren't expecting to be exhausting.
"Hey, we've got this, don't we?" The small girl reached across the table and held her boyfriend's hand in her own, making him lift his head from his other hand.
"Of course we do, baby." The soft smile on Jack's face reassured Joelle and so she returned the smile which in turn, reassured Jack.
