She Knows

Right when I was about to fall asleep, I heard a knock on the door. It wasn't a loud knock. It was more of a soft tap as if it didn't want to be heard.

I opened the door, and there she was. Just like usual, she had her sweater pulled up to her chin.

Her voice was quiet, and it slightly trembled as she whispered the words,

"I heard."

I immediately knew what she was talking about as my lips formed a small smile.

I whispered back that I had heard something too from her place. Right as she moved her mouth to speak, I knew what she would say, but I beat her to it.

"It must've been the wind."
