She smiled at the words and was about to leave until I whispered,

"You're always welcome to come in, you know, maybe stay for a couple of hours if you wanna be friends."

She smiled again and nodded, seeming happy with the idea.

"When you're ready, we can talk about the noise, but for now, we'll just say it's the wind."

She nodded and smiled painfully, but as she walked away, I could tell her smile fell, and all I could do was watch her walk down the hall and into the elevator and hope that she'd take my offer.
