Weeks later, Felix was sifting through some oranges at his local grocery store.
He squinted, trying to see past the gray barrier. it wouldn't ebb; he couldn't see anything beside the familiar grayscale and the ever-impressive red.
Funny that they call it an orange, named after a color that a part of the population can't see.
He put it back down, laughing lightly to himself. Felix turned around, finding himself in front of someone who seemed vaguely familiar.
"Were you planning on taking one?" a kind voice inquired. The voice resonated, the timbre low and rich. Felix liked the man's voice.
He shook his head. "No, you go ahead. sorry."
The man chuckled and smiled, saying it was no problem. A soft smile remained on his lips, a sign that the pleasant, random encounter had warmed his heart.
And, suddenly, the oranges were orange.
Felix memorized the man's face, including each unique shade of his skin tone.
The same man Felix had spilled coffee on, the same man that was Felix's soulmate, turned away, allowing himself a small gasp as the warm, brown walls of the store became visible to him.
By the time he glanced backward, it was too late.
Felix and his oranges, taken on a random impulse, had already disappeared.
