Red in colour,
But feeling blue inside
My unique scent
Attracts lots of butterflies.
You may think I am so pretty
And bring lots of smiles,
But to approach me,
You need to be very wise.

Cause even though I look pretty,
I have thorns all over my stem.
Thorns that exist to protect me
From all the hurt I've felt.
Everyone looked past me
After being stung once
But there was only one person
Who gave me a hug.

He got stung all over,
I felt so bad inside.
But he just smiled and said,
'I need to give a rose to my bride.
And you're the perfect one
So no matter how many thorns are outside,
I'll still try my best to get you
But for that, I have to understand your mind.

Saying so, he fondled my petals
Ignoring the tiny stings he got once in a while
And he told me, 'You're beautiful
No one wants to hurt you, so smile.
You're placed on earth to spread joy and love.
Don't let the hate stop you from looking above.'
I was so shocked, I didn't know what to say
But I trusted his words in my own way.

Kneeling down on the hard ground,
He touched the thorns that had been hurting everyone.
Smiling at me, he plucked them out.
Bit by bit, thorn by thorn, he left none out.
He said, 'I'm taking you to a loving home.
A place where you'll find no use for your thorns.'
And then he gently plucked me out,
Put me in a vase with water and set out.

He presented me to his lady love
And watched her smile the smile he loved.
She fondled my petals and gave him a hug
And said,' It's so beautiful. Thank you, luv. '
And that's how my story changed
From a story of a neglected flower to a story of grace
I never found the need to grow thorns again
Cause I was now a precious flower, who had no room for hate.
