To a friend who refuses to be named,

Throughout my life, I held many friends dear,

Friends who were by my side all through the years.

Some I had met, some were just my penpals.

But all the same, they were all my friends

And I held them dear.

But soon I realised their friendship was all

About being known to be kind, nothing else at all.

When I praised them, they loved me.

When I was there for them, they valued me.

But when I fell, there were none for me.

None except you, my friend.

When I felt like I couldn't fly,

You pointed out my wings.

When I struggled to fly,

You showed me how to flap them.

You knew all my weaknesses, yet you comforted me.

You shared all your joys and sorrows with me.

You rejoiced in my victories, you cried along with me.

But in spite of all you did for me

You never wanted to be named,

You never wanted to be praised.

So through this poem, I would like to convey

That of all the precious things in the world to me,

You are most certainly my pearl in the sea.
