CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR:    ENYO

April 9, 1996 (70 Days Before)

            "What is that?"

Sixteen-year-old Theodore Nott stood at the door of Andromeda Erebus's bedroom, leaning against the doorframe with a questionable stare. Easter Holiday was in effect for Hogwarts, which meant that they were given a break from the wretched ruling of Dolores Umbridge ruining their lives slowly but surely with the color pink―Mia would take twenty more decrees over the sight of another pink invitation to join the 'Inquisitorial Squad'. She would also rather choke on pumpkin pasties than be within ten feet of Umbridge and her strong perfume. Her fifth-year was obviously going incredibly well, especially given that everyone at Hogwarts believed her father was a murderer working for the Dark Lord because Harry Potter said so.

"Would you believe me if I said it was cooking recipes?" she asked wryly.

His lip quirked at the question, shrugging his broad shoulders. "So long as you keep the poison off my food during dinner."

"Tempting offer, but I suppose I'll submit..." she hesitated, glancing at the clock. "It would be wrong of me to say how desperately I want to sew Grandmother's mouth shut, wouldn't it?"

"She hasn't even arrived yet."

"Yes...and? Is it wrong?"

"...no. I could help if you'd like," he offered. Then he sighed, choosing his next words carefully. "Our fathers are downstairs arguing again. Aunt Cece has resorted to helping Pickett cook to distract herself from their conversation. Something along the lines of hoping she'll catch food poisoning and miss out on the whole evening. Maybe you can offer some tips from your recipes."

"Sounds like a normal evening for our family. What's it over this time?"

"Undetermined. The door was quite literally slammed on my face when I attempted to walk in. I heard Potter's name though, so they could be plotting murder over our classmate in the near future if we're lucky," he explained, walking further into her room so that he could throw himself down on the edge of her bed. He winced, pulling at the collar of his tight shirt uncomfortably. "How has Uncle Alastiare been with you? Father forgets he has a son. I believe the last time he made direct eye contact with me was when I tried to pick up a letter I thought was from school and turned out to be his. It's the fastest I've seen the man move since I was born."

Mia shut the book and threw it down next to her, gasping sarcastically. "You mean he actually looked at you? I've forgotten Father's eye color. Soon enough he'll start confusing me with the statue of Salazar we have in the lawn. He did leave these at my bedroom door, though―"

Theo peered over at the cover on the books. "Legilimency? Occulumency? Why does he want you reading into those?"

"I'd suggest the theory that he wants to teach me, but I'd sooner believe the world was ending. Legilimency seems interesting enough to learn, though. I'd reckon I'd be good at it, too, with the non-verbal piece of it and all."
